Travis Head scored a unbeaten 154 and Marnus Labuschagne contributed 77 as Australia successfully chased down a formidable 316-run target to beat England by seven wickets in the first of their five-match One Day International Series at Trent Bridge.
Australia reached 317-3 with six overs to spare after bowling England out for 315 in 49.4 overs.
It was a 13th successive ODI win for last year’s World Cup winners, and sixth in a row over England, despite being forced to field a depleted line-up because of illness in their camp and injury.
Head’s highest ODI score, coming off 129 balls with 20 fours and five sixes, was ably supported by Labuschagne, who earlier had also proven key in restricting England’s strong start to the contest.

A couple of wides thrown in by Green, whose radar appears to have gone haywire. England will take those extras.
England 72-1 (12) Jacks 19, Duckett 33, Short 0-12 (2)
Six! Jacks cuts loose, smashing over cover all the way over the rope for six. England add 10 more to their tally.
England 62-1 (11) Jacks 10, Duckett 32, Green 0-3 (1)
Cam Green backs up Short with an economical over of his own, going for three. Australia have stalled the momentum a little.
England 59-1 (10) Jacks 8, Duckett 31, Short 0-2 (1)
A nice, tight start from Matthew Short in his first over, giving up only a couple of singles, and that concludes the powerplay. England going along nicely so far.
England 57-1 (8) Jacks 7, Duckett 30, Abbott 0-32 (3)
Abbott is back into the attack, facing England’s new batter, Will Jacks. He’s told off for going wide on his crease and then bowls a no ball that bounces way over Jacks’ head. With the next ball, Jacks stands and delivers with a smack down the ground for four.
Wicket! Salt 17 (24), b Dwarshuis 1-15
Phil Salt tries to give himself room to slap through the off side but gets himself in a tangle and the ball skids through to hit the stumps. Finally, Australia have a breakthrough.
England 46-0 (6) Salt 16, Duckett 29, Abbott 0-24 (2)
Excellent from Duckett, who begins Abbott’s latest over with back-to-back boundaries. He sees off a couple of dot ball and then there’s more, as he steps down the wicket and slashes across the line to mid-wicket for a four, and hits a near carbon-copy boundary from the back foot a moment later.
Four fours in the over. Ruthless.
England 30-0 (6) Salt 16, Duckett 13, Dwarshuis 0-15 (3)
England start the next Dwarshuis over in watchful fashion, Duckett just defending the ball to the field, and waiting for a bit of width which comes in the next delivery which he plays comfortably for a single.
Salt takes over where Duckett left off and just defends the ball.
The next one is too straight and Salt tucks it away for a single towards backwards square. Salt goes after one, it’s a big inside edge and skews awkwardly behind him, but England have the boundary.
England 23-0 (5) Salt 10, Duckett 12, Abbott 0-8 (1)
Time for a bowling change and Sean Abbott comes into the attack after just the two overs from Hardie.
His first delivery is played back to him by Duckett, but the next one is a wide and England won’t mind where the runs come from.
A short wide one is punched away by Duckett to bring up his first boundary of the innings. It was a well-timed shot just waiting for it and pushed through the gap.
And the final ball of the over is skewed away towards the boundary, he only had one hand on it and it saves the four.
England 15-0 (4) Salt 10, Duckett 5, Dwarshuis 0-8 (2)
The ball skews off the inside edge of Salt’s bat and almost goes to the boundary, that is Trent Bridge and could be a sign that this will be a high-scoring game.
The next ball however he finds Labuschagne. There has just been the first sign of Archer, under a big duvet-like coat on the balcony, as he prepares for his first ODI for a year and a half.
England are taking their time so far, dealing in singles rather than boundaries, but there is a very long way to go in this match.
Another one off the outside edge, this time Duckett picks up a single to end the over.
