Follow day 10 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with 45 gold medals up for grabs
A thrilling penultimate day at Birmingham 2022 has delivered more action to this thoroughly entertaining Commonwealth Games, with 45 gold medals in total set to be dished out by the end of the evening.
Tonight was all about Laura Muir, and the Scotland star produced a brilliant kick to win gold in the women’s 1500m final, adding to her 800m bronze from the previous evening. Later, a wide-open men’s 800m final, was won by Kenya’s Wyclife Kinyamal ahead of Australia’s Peter Bol, with England’s Ben Pattison taking bronze.
Eilish McColgan added to her 10,000m gold with a gutsy silver in the 5,000m and there was further joy as England’s women wrapped up the action at the Alexander Stadium with a dramatic gold in the 4x400m final. It was short lived, however, after the team was disqualified following a lane infringment.
Earlier, home-town hero Matt Hudson-Smith was left disappointed when forced to settle for silver in the men’s 400m, while Victoria Ohuruogu was more upbeat, grabbing a silver in the women’s 400m final. There was drama in the 4x100m relay finals, with England men and Nigeria women prevailing.
In the afternoon, a dramatic men’s cycling road race saw Geraint Thomas fall just short with a late push to break the lead group, leaving New Zealand’s Aaron Gate to sprint clear and win a fourth gold at these Games. And in the result of the day, England pulled off a shock to stun Australia and win Commonwealth gold in the women’s hockey final. Follow all the action throughout the evening below:

She has a 136 points difference over Kate O’Connor, which is around nine seconds.
Johnson-Thompson surely has to just make it round in one piece in order to win gold.

Eilish McColgan: “It’s been such an up and down year with Covid and little niggles, but I couldn’t have asked for any more tonight. I’ve never sprinted like that in my entire life. I wanted it so bad. I knew if I stayed with them I could sprint. It’s just an absolute dream.
“It’s just so special to do it in the UK. To do it tonight is just so special.”
Liz McColgan: “For me as a mother, to witness it is just amazing. She ran the race I knew she could. It’s been a long time coming but I’m really pleased because I know the work she put in. It’s fantastic it has come together.”

WHAT A RACE!
Scotland’s Eilish McColgan is the Commonwealth Games champion after a titanic final lap battle with Kenya’s Irine Cheptai.
Both runners were throwing everything they had at each other over the last 400m, which turned into a sprint to the line.
But McColgan had the kick to burst away from Cheptai and set a Games record of 30:48

Arsenal fan Jamal Petgrave delivered Commonwealth Games judo gold for England and then admitted he would love to parade the medal at the Emirates Stadium.
Petgrave went into overtime to produce a ‘Golden Score’ victory over Mauritius judoka Remi Feuillet before his thoughts quickly turned to the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

Gina Kennedy wins gold for England in the women’s squash!
The 25-year-old takes the singles title by defeating Canada’s Hollie Naughton 3-1 in the gold medal match.
It’s England’s first gold medal in the squash this week.
Commonwealth Games: Athletics
Daryll Neita sets a brilliant PB of 10.90 in her 100m semi-final, setting up what should be a brilliant final against Elaine Thompson-Herah in the final tonight.
Thompson-Herah won her heat in ease, but clocked a time of 11.05. Should be a great battle later.

Ben Proud does it again! It’s three Commonwealth Games golds in a row for the Englishman, who once again dominates the 50m freestyle field.
