Trump vows to ‘take other countries’ jobs’ while campaigning in Georgia

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Donald Trump has vowed to take jobs from other countries if he wins the presidency in November through a program of tariff hikes and tax incentives that he believes will encourage foreign companies to relocate production to the US.

The Republican presidential nominee was speaking at a rally in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday as part of a week of swing state events.

On Monday night he told a crowd in Pennsylvania that he would be a “protector” for women who “will no longer be thinking about abortion” if he is re-elected.

At the rally in the city of Indiana, scenes turned ugly when the crowd broke out into chants of “send them back” after the former president whipped up the crowd about immigration.

Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has told Wisconsin Public Radio that she is in favor of axing the Senate filibuster in order to codify abortion protections that were previously guaranteed under Roe v Wade.

The latest Reuters poll has Harris up six points nationally but a Quinnipiac University poll also released today has the candidates neck-and-neck among likely voters.

Will Gaza sink Joe Biden’s foreign policy legacy?

John Bowden writes:

With Israel now focussing military efforts on Lebanon, the war in Gaza looks set to be remembered as the final nail in the coffin for Joe Biden’s foreign policy legacy.

The US president’s decision to step down from his bid for re-election in July has solidified a new reality for the White House and the broader Biden administration: the Democratic president will not be remembered for his stewardship of the Middle East in a positive light.

Could Mark Robinson’s campaign implosion be a Carolina miracle for Kamala Harris?

John Bowden writes:

It’s a four-alarm fire at GOP headquarters in North Carolina, but nobody’s bringing any water.

With the election a little more than a month out, Republicans in the Tar Heel state are facing an unimaginable crisis: a nominee for the highest elected office on the ballot this year (with the exception of the presidential ticket) who is, to put it mildly, a disaster. Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor, is undergoing a full-scale campaign collapse triggered by a CNN investigation into his past.

Biden to deliver a ‘decisive’ decade halftime report on climate

President Joe Biden on Tuesday will tell a group of top business leaders that the climate crisis presents unprecedented economic opportunity Tuesday in what the White House is billing as a “decisive decade halftime report” following his final speech to the UN General Assembly as president.

Speaking to the New York City-based Bloomberg Global Business Forum, the president is expected to make the case for a future that focuses on building up US manufacturing and infrastructure, and rebuilding the American middle class.

In a preview of the speech on Monday, National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi told reporters that the president will not be “focused on doom and gloom,” despite somewhat grim projections of the rapidly warming world.

Julia Musto and Andrew Feinberg report.

Trump assassination attempt suspect detailed shooting in a note

A Florida man accused of a botched assassination attempt against Donald Trump on September 15 sketched out his plan in a handwritten note that offered a six-figure payout to anyone who could finish off the former president.

The note was included in a detention proffer filed Monday morning by prosecutors in advance of a court appearance later in the day by Ryan Wesley Routh, who is facing two weapons-related charges in the alleged plot on Trump’s life. Routh was in West Palm Beach federal court for a hearing which ended with US Magistrate Judge Ryon McCabe ordering the 58-year-old Hawaii resident to be held without bail.

Justin Rohrlich reports.

For refusing another debate, Dems plan to troll Trump with billboards calling him a ‘chicken'

The Democratic National Committee is taunting Donald Trump for not agreeing to a second debate against Vice President Kamala Harris by putting up billboards that name-call the former president a “chicken.”

As Trump gears up for his rally in Indiana, Pennsylvania on Monday evening, billboards in the area will feature the former president’s face superimposed onto a chicken suit with the words: “There’s no debate: Donald Trump’s a chicken”.

The image will also be featured on a mobile billboard that will circle his rally “to remind voters of how much of a chicken Trump is,” DNC deputy communications director Abhi Rahman said.

Here’s what you need to know about Trump’s crypto venture that has Barron as its ‘visionary’

Io Dodds writes:

“You can literally sell s*** in a can, wrapped in piss, covered in human skin, for a billion dollars if the story’s right, because people will buy it.”

So said internet marketer and self-professed “dirtbag” Chase Herro from the driver’s seat of his Rolls-Royce in a 2018 YouTube video, according to Bloomberg News.

Six years later, Herro is one of the brains behind a new cryptocurrency venture backed by none other by Donald Trump and his three sons. The elder sons Don Jr and Eric are leading the promotion, although supposedly it is 18-year-old Barron who will serve as the project’s “visionary”.”

Donald Trump Jr peddles bogus claim that Harris used teleprompter during Oprah event

Some conservatives, including Donald Trump Jr., are boosting an unsubstantiated claim that Vice President Kamala Harris used a teleprompter during her interview with Oprah Winfrey to support their assertion that she is “a fraud.”

On Thursday, Harris sat down with Winfrey for a live event - called “Unite for America” - that brought together a coalition of more than 100 online groups and celebrities who have endorsed her. The vice president spoke about her campaign’s top issues and answered questions from Americans.

But, over the weekend, conservatives capitalized on a three-second video that captured the interview from a different perspective, showing a teleprompter and camera positioned in front of Winfrey.

Project 2025: How it became Trump’s worst nightmare

John Bowden writes:

These days, “Project 2025” is nothing but a dirty word (or pair of words) to staffers on Donald Trump’s third bid for the presidency. After months of negative coverage and attacks from Democrats, Trump and his top aides are both engaged in a conscious effort to distance the former president from the project whenever possible. That effort drew to a heated pitch this summer as top Trump campaign officials Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles released a statement crowing over the resignation of a top Project 2025 operative and declaring the various groups involved with the plan to be speaking on the former president’s behalf without his permission.

This wasn’t supposed to be how the election went at all. The question remains: How did the Heritage Foundation and the other conservative groups behind Project 2025 fumble the bag this badly?

The answer seems obvious: Donald Trump. But that wasn’t obvious to anybody working on the effort.

ICYMI: Mark Robinson sees NC campaign staff quit in droves

Embattled North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is reportedly down to just a single-digit number of paid campaign staffers after the bulk of his team abandoned his bid for the governor’s office in the wake of a damaging CNN investigation.

Robinson was the focus of an investigation by the network’s KFile unit on Thursday. A report published by CNN revealed an extensive history of comments made on a porn site called “Nude Africa” under an email address and username both known to be linked to him.

The comments, which touched on a wide range of topics, were outrageous and shocking — in one, he apparently referred to himself as a “Black Nazi.”
