Kamala Harris calls out Donald Trump’s ‘lack of empathy’

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Donald Trump sent Vladimir Putin Covid-19 test kits at the height of the pandemic, according to a new book by veteran Watergate journalist Bob Woodward. The former president also spoke with the Russian leader as many as seven times after leaving the White House, it alleges.

The Trump campaign has called the stories “made up” and Woodward “demented and deranged” and a “sleazebag”.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with the co-hosts of ABC’s The View on Tuesday morning to discuss the campaign and her proposal for Medicare to cover at-home care for seniors.

The Democrat nominee is undertaking a media blitz, having appeared on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Monday on which she was pressed on her economic plan, US support for Ukraine and Israel, and her experiences as a gun owner.

Harris also appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show for a lengthy, wide-ranging interview and later is a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Her running mate Tim Walz was also grilled on 60 Minutes and made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.

Trump will appear on Ben Shapiro’s show today.

Trump mocks Pete Buttigieg during interview about North Carolina storm

Donald Trump never misses an opportunity to mock one of his political opponents’ names.

During an interview aired Monday on Fox News, the former president intentionally mispronounced the last name of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg while discussing his response to Hurricane Helene.

Here’s more on how Trump is politicizing the Helene response, from Kelly Rissman.

Trump says hurricane survivors will ‘crawl’ to voting booth

Hurricane Helene, in addition to damaging states across the southeast and killings scores of people, may also impact the 2024 election, hampering the ability of voters in places like North Carolina and Georgia to make their voices heard.

Donald Trump, for his part, isn’t concerned.

“Republican areas got hit very hard,” Trump, the former president told Fox News in an interview aired on Monday.

However, Trump said his supporters will turn out, claiming, “They’re going to go out and vote if they have to crawl to a voting booth.”

Why Trump says Israel has ‘to get smart’

One year on from the Hamas terrorist attack that sparked 12 months of intense conflict in the Middle East, Donald Trump has said that Israel needs to “get smart” and support him.

The former president appeared to complain that he was not being backed by Israel, claiming in typical fashion that he had done more for the nation and Jewish people “than anybody.”

Monday October 7 marks the one year anniversary of the attack by Hamas fighters at a music festival in southern Israel, during which some 1,200 people were killed. The past year has seen the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians.

Trump describes moments after Butler assassination attempt: ‘A lot of blood'

Donald Trump is opening up about the moments just after the July assassination attempt against him at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Well there was a lot of blood,” Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham during an interview from his comeback rally in Butler that aired on Monday. “When I was down and bullets were flying over my head, I noted tremendous amounts of blood.”

The Republican praised the “brave” Secret Service agents who protected him, and said he declined to leave the event on a stretcher as some recommended.

“I didn’t like that,” Trump said. “I had a lot of people watching. I didn’t want that.”

Here’s more on Trump’s return rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump is messing up GOP’s multi-million dollar mail-in voting campaigns

Republican operatives working to boost Donald Trump in critical swing states like Pennsylvania are finding themselves increasingly hampered by his own rhetoric on mail-in voting.

Despite the ex-president seeking the White House for a third time, he is once again casting doubt on US election procedures and sabotaging his own voters’ trust in voting systems.

John Bowden reports.

DeSantis ‘refused to take call’ from Kamala Harris on hurricane relief

Florida governor Ron DeSantis reportedly refused to take a call from vice president Kamala Harris about disaster recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the latest sign of a tense partisan atmosphere derailing the response to the catastrophic storm.

“Kamala was trying to reach out, and we didn’t answer,” a DeSantis aide told NBC News, adding that the calls “seemed political.”

When asked about the situation on Monday, the White House pushed the spotlight back on DeSantis.

Trump to speak at October 7 remembrance event in Florida

Donald Trump will speak this evening at an October 7 rembrance event at his Trump National Doral Miami golf club.

Here’s what the campaign had to say about the event in a media release last week.

October 7th, 2023, was the day in which the most Jewish people were murdered since the Holocaust. Hamas and other Iranian-backed proxies launched a war, not just against Israel, but against all of our shared values. What we have witnessed in the past year is a battle between the forces of good versus evil. Since the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, we have witnessed nothing but global chaos, as evidenced by Iran’s horrific missile attack on Israel just this past week.

The event features tributes to the more than 1,200 people killed in Hamas’s suprise cross-border attack on Israel a year ago, as well as empty seats representing the roughly 30 hostages who remain missing. “This country is really at a crossroads in so many ways,” rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, one of the event’s organizers, told CBS Miami, praising Trump for the “concrete steps” he’s suggested about protecting Jews in the U.S. from antisemitic attacks.

Family members of those harmed on October 7 are also expected to speak at the event.
