General election 2019: Boris Johnson arrives at Downing Street

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Boris Johnson has said he will make the NHS an "overwhelming priority" during his renewed tenure in No. 10 following a political “earthquake” which which saw Labour support give way top a comfortable Tory majority.

However he has not extended the same olive branch to voters north of the border - telling Nicola Sturgeon he would not lend any support to a second independence referendum.

Meanwhile Jeremy Corbyn has refused to take responsibility for the worst Labour showing since 1935 - blaming Brexit for the party’s devastating defeat.

(That's also the seat that used to be held by Chris Williamson, the Labour MP who was kicked out over anti-semitism. He ran as an independent, got 635 and lost his deposit.)

Sir Keir Starmer, in his acceptance speech, said it was time for the Labour party to rebuild.

He said: "My heart goes out to the millions who needed change in this election having already suffered under 10 years of the Tories.

"This is their loss.

"They won't get the change they so desperately need.

"Now we as a movement, as a whole movement, need to reflect on this result and understand it together, but we also have a duty to rebuild, starting now."
