From Blake Lively to Kim Kardashian, the best-dressed stars of the Met Gala stunned in vintage dresses and multiple outfit changes.
The theme of the evening’s Met Gala was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the second part of the Costume Institute’s exhibition, which opened on 18 September. The first part of the exhibition was reflected in last year’s Met Gala theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which was in celebration of all things American Fashion.
Last year, the Met Gala took place on 13 September and the year before, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Usually, around 600 celebrities are invited to mark the glitzy event in their social calendars, but this year and last, the numbers are closer to 400.
As per tradition, the guest list for this year’s event was carefully presided over by Vogue’sAnna Wintour, who has run the gala since 1995. It was announced earlier this year that the 2022 hosts would include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who served as the night’s official co-chairs.
Lizzo played a rare $55,000 (£43,800) flute on the Met Gala’s red carpet.
The singer arrived at the gala wearing a hand-embroidered Thom Browne gown which took 22,000 hours to make.
“It took 22,000 hours to make this coat,” she said. “I’m just so happy to be in it, I feel like a piece of art.”
The singer’s flute-playing was praised by fans on social media, with one commenting: “Lizzo pulling out her flute on the Met Gala red carpet is the biggest slay of 2022 thus far.”
Another added: “Lizzo is a whole VIBE with her ICONIC flute.”

It’s been well documented by now that Kim Kardashian wore a dress once owned by Marilyn Monroe to last night’s Met Gala.
The dress, which was loaned to Kardashian from Ripley’s Believe Or Not Museum, was purchased by the museum in 2016 for US$4.8 million (£3.8 million). It is usually kept in a dark, temperature-controlled vault.
The garment is known for being the dress Monroe wore when she famously sang Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy in 1962, just a couple of months before her death.

Last night’s Met Gala was overrun by Kardashian-Jenners, as five of the famous sisters appeared on the red carpet.
While most eyes were on Kim Kardashian and her beau, Pete Davidson, Kim’s sister Kourtney and Travis Barker made a statement with their matching Thom Browne skirts.

A rather pared-down look for the couple, Kardashian styled her skirt with a cropped blouse and tie, while Barker wore his skirt over a pair of black trousers.
“We’re in Thom Browne, and I’m basically like a deconstructed version of [Travis’s] outfit,” Kardashian said in an interview.
She also admitted they “didn’t really think” about the Gilded Glamour theme as they dressed for the event.
Katy Perry joked that her Met Gala gown made it “difficult” for her to use the restroom.
The singer, who wore an Oscar de la Renta dress for the occasion, said not to ask her “how I’m going to the restroom ever or anyone at the Met”.
As Amber Raiken reports, Perry also joked about coming as a cheeseburger to the 2019 Met Gala.
“I mean it isn’t my first rodeo, so I feel like I can relax. You know last time I came to the Met, I was a cheeseburger, I loved it. I was like: ‘What am I going to do tonight?’”

Nicki Minaj appeared to call out a man who “leaked” her attendance at the Met Gala.
As Chelsea Ritschel reports: “While ascending the steps of the museum, a video posted to Instagram by the account @spiritualworld appeared to show the moment that Minaj addressed an unseen individual about her attendance, with Minaj captured threatening the off-screen attendee.”
While it was not clear who Minaj was addressing, she did say: “Are you the man that leaked that I was gonna be here?” Minaj asked as she pointed at someone off-camera. “Yeah, you. It was you. I’m about to come up to you and slap the sh*t out of you.”

As the Kardashian-Jenner family walked the Met Gala red carpet, a jury in California reached a verdict in the family’s defamation lawsuit filed by Blac Chyna. The Los Angeles jury ruled in favour of the famous family and declined to reward Blac Chyna any of the $100m in damages that she was seeking.
Kris Jenner told Variety’s Marc Malkin that she’s “just happy it’s over,” adding that she’s glad the trial is over “for the girls” as well.
When asked how she powered through the trial, Jenner replied: “Pray. I live in my faith and just hope that’s enough.”
As Meredith Clark reports, the clerk at the Los Angeles courthouse was told by lawyers on Monday that the family were all “at some gala” in New York.

Khloe Kardashian has spoken candidly about her first Met Gala event, revealing that her “anxiety was through the roof” when she walked the red carpet.
“Am I supposed to admit that I almost had a heart attack on that carpet tonight?” she tweeted after the evening’s festivities. “My anxiety was through the roof!”
The Good American founder, 37, was dressed in a gold Moschino dress donned with a black bow on her shoulder. She paired the look with metallic sunglasses and elbow-length black gloves.

Kim Kardashian underwent a 14-hour hair transformation to channel Marilyn Monroe’s bleach blonde hair colour at the 2022 Met Gala.
“I’m spending the whole day just dyeing my hair, 14 hours straight,” Kardashian told Vogue ahead of Monday evening’s event.
Kardashian revealed to livestream co-host La La Anthony that she plans to keep the colour “for a while,” she said.
This wasn’t the only physical transformation Kardashian endured for the Met Gala, having lost 16 pounds in three weeks.

The black-and-white striped gown was designed by Christopher John Rogers. She accessorised the look with long black gloves, and a veiled hat with multi-coloured feathers.
