Meet the new Love Islanders 2018

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Everyone’s favourite reality TV show Love Island is back, with the new series airing on ITV2.

One dramatic episode in and there's already people being 'muggy', 'salty' and 'extra', just some of the unique words you can expect to hear.

Here's everything you need to know about what went on in episode one.

Need a reminder of who’s heading to the luxury villa in Majorca, Spain? Then flick through the gallery below, which holds snippets of information on each of the eleven tanned, toned, and tattooed contestants.

This year’s Love Island will be the longest season of the show so far, this year’s 150,000 applicants being told they would need to be available for a minimum of ten weeks for the series.

Caroline Flack – who will once again be hosting – previously said this series will be the “longest yet”. Ian Sterling will also be returning as the voice of Love Island.

Some other tidbits of information: while unconfirmed, the contestants (many of whom leave their jobs or take extensive leave to be on the show) get paid a rumoured £200 a week for participating.

ITV2’s popular spin-off show Aftersun also returns this year, while the channel has also launched a podcast series named The Morning After.

Check back here for all the latest on Love Island.

Is it just us or does the Love Island villa look exactly like something out of Sims 2? (As in the video game, in case even that reference is too much for you)

A sneak peak of some of the contestants talking in the villa garden.

We're all on tenterhooks at what they've said to annoy the man on the right so much.

It's nearly time! Three minutes to go, and still silence from Danny Dyer...

"The search for true love..." A bold claim.

First contestant introduced as Samira, a West End singing star.

Hayley is next up and I think we can see a theme already appearing: heartbreak from previous exes. I'm guessing we're going to be hearing about that again...

And now Kendall from Blackpool, the third of the female contestants we'll be getting to know over the series.

Yet again, another painful breakup being mentioned already.

The first contestants are talking in the villa garden.

And now we have Danni Dyer, daughter of Danny Dyer.

He's being unusually quiet on Twitter at the moment, but we'll let you know if that changes...

So our next, also scantily clad, female villa-mate is taking us through every single person she's ever dated. Strap in everyone.

Presenter Caroline Flack is here to talk to the women about love. She seems the only one allowed to wear clothes.

The unanimous attitude seems to be they are "looking for love", not something short term. Seems an odd place to look for it...
