From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Emmy nominations for 2019 were announced today in Hollywood, with Game of Thrones, Better Call Saul, Chernobyl and Fleabag receiving attention from voters.
Ken Jeong and The Good Place star D’Arcy Carden announced the names of the drama, comedy and limited run shows that’ll duke it out come September.
Making things more exciting was the fact that an alarming number of heavyweights - including The Handmaid's Tale and The Crown - were exempt from contention this year.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will air 22 September at about 1am UK time.
Yes, they don't announce the supporting categories live BUT Sian Clifford has been nominated for her pencil haircut in Fleabag.
Kristin Scott Thomas also got nominated for Outstanding Guest for her brief but no less brilliant role. A terrific day for Fleabag fans.
On a personal note (because I love it, not because I know anyone who makes it), I'm extremely happy Succession got a Best Drama nomination. It won't win, but it's placement will work wonders for the series when it returns to HBO next month. No acting nominations, alas...
By my count, it's 13 nominations for Netflix this year (depends whether you count Bodyguard, which was shown in the UK on the BBC, but found success in the US on the streaming service). Nominations include Ozark, Russian Doll and, of course When They See Us. Not forgetting Black Mirror: Bandersnatch!
