Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A fundraiser to help cover YouTube star Corey La Barrie’s funeral costs has raised nearly £150,000 in two days.

The 25-year-old video maker died in a car crash on Sunday night, with Ink Master star Daniel Silva reportedly arrested for murder.

In order to help cover funeral costs, La Barrie’s family set up a GoFundMe page titled the “Official Corey La Barrie Memorial Fund”, writing on the website: “As you can imagine, the family is grieving right now and the last thing we want them to worry about is finances. Memorial expenses are only the beginning for Corey’s family.

“While we may not be able to release Corey’s family of their emotional burdens, we can come together and do what we can to relieve them of some of the financial hardship and what will be a new reality to exist in.”

Within 48 hours of the fundraiser starting, the page had smashed its $150,000 (£122,000) target, with nearly $183,000 (£150,000) being donated.

Thanking his fans for their support, the family confirmed that as well as a private funeral, a public memorial would be held for the internet personality at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, with fans able to attend.

“Your donations have made all of this possible and for that, we truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” they wrote.

On Wednesday (13 May), La Barrie’s creative partner Crawford Collins broke his silence on the accident, saying that he was going to miss “my brother/best friend/channel partner and one crazy motherf***er”.
