Michelle Yeoh took home the Best Actress prize, becoming the first Asian woman and only second woman of colour to win the trophy. The film also won Best Picture, and Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for writer/directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.
Brendan Fraser cemented his comeback with a Best Actor win for The Whale, while Everything Everywhere stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan picked up Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
The night was not without controversy, with criticism aimed at Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Malala and a painful encounter between model Ashley Graham and an “obnoxious” Hugh Grant.
Many also felt that Angela Bassett deserved the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The award instead went to Jamie Lee Curtis, prompting what many viewers described as a “real” reaction from Bassett.

There were plenty of bold looks on the “champagne” carpet this year, including Rihanna who turned up in a T-shirt, trainers and bucket hat.

Saturday Night Live criticised for ‘offensive’ and ‘mean-spirited’ Irish stereotypes in Oscars sketch
However, Saturday Night Live has come under fire for its portrayal of Banshees of Inisherin stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell in a sketch that aired during last night’s show.
The episode opened with a sketch set on the Oscars red carpet, with Mikey Day and Molly Kearney portraying the Irish actors with thick, hard-to-understand accents.

When did Jimmy Kimmel last host the Oscars?
Back in the driving seat at this evening’s awards show is Jimmy Kimmel, who is returning as host for 2023 Oscars
Kimmel first hosted the awards in 2017, the year that La La Land was mistakenly announced as the Best Picture winner over Moonlight, the true winner. The second time he hosted was in 2018.

Oscars 2023: Why will there be no red carpet this year?
For the first time since 1961, the Academy Awards will be without its iconic red carpet. That's because, this year, the Oscars has opted for stars to strut their stuff down a carpet with a champagne hue.
