Yesterday, thousands waved flags and sang the national anthem during fridge winter weather.

Thousands have been warned that if people do not leave the country now, they may find it impossible to escape amid rumours that Ukrainian airspace could be closed in the coming days.

The British, US and Canadian embassies have also sent staff home or to the western city of Lviv.
