Justin Trudeau invokes emergency powers in response to trucker protests
Canada’s prime minister says he aims to support, strengthen law enforcement amid ongoing anti-government blockades and rallies.
Justin Trudeau took unprecedented steps of invoking the Emergencies Act to crack down on anti-vaccine mandate protests.
"This is not a peaceful protest," Mr Trudeau said.
The scope of his measures would be "time-limited", "reasonable and proportionate" and would not see the military deployed.
Anyone who is linked to the protests will have their banks frozen without the new of a court order.
