China says Aukus on ‘dangerous path’ for its own ‘self-interest’
China has said that Aukus is travelling “further down the wrong and dangerous path for their own geopolitical self-interest".
Aukus is the acronym given to refer to the pact between the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin claimed the arrangement arises from the “typical Cold War mentality," and only helped to "motivate an arms race."
It comes as the nations finalise an agreement for Australia to purchase nuclear-powered attack submarines from the US.
