CCTV shows moment grandmother enters home she mistakes for B&B before murder
Doorbell camera footage captures the moment an elderly woman arrived at what she mistakenly believed was a B&B shortly before she was murdered by the man who lived there.
CCTV captures the “much-loved” wife, mother and grandmother pulling her suitcase behind her as she approaches the property.
Margaret Barnes, 71, was visiting Barmouth on Wales’s northwestern coast in July 2022 when she mistook her booked accommodation for the home of David Redfern, who lived on the same street.
Caernarfon Crown Court heard this week how Margaret, who had been drinking alcohol, got into Redfern’s bed and was discovered by Redfern and his partner at 11pm, less than an hour after footage showed her arriving at the property.
Redfern dragged the helpless woman by her heels down the stairs and flung her into the street, kicking or stamping on her – breaking three ribs and causing an unsurvivable injury to her liver.
Ms Barnes died in the street from the catastrophic injuries.
Redfern was convicted by a jury this week and handed a mandatory life sentence for murder, with a minimum of 14 years before parole.
