From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will meet in the main event of UFC 309 tonight, a full year after they were first meant to fight.
Jones suffered a torn pectoral muscle last November, forcing the cancellation of the fight on two weeks’ notice. As such, he was unable to defend the heavyweight title against Miocic, a former two-time champion.
In the meantime, Tom Aspinall has won and retained the interim title, and he awaits the winner of Jones vs Miocic – unless the victor retires, which is a very real possibility.
Light-heavyweight great Jones, 37, has not fought since beating Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight belt in March 2023, and prior to that, the American had been inactive since 2020.
And Miocic, 42, has not fought since March 2021, when his second reign as champion was ended by Francis Ngannou – who brutally knocked out the Ohio native to avenge a 2018 loss. Here’s all you need to know.
