Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

UFC® 196: McGREGOR vs. DIAZ QUOTES AND SCORECARDS Sanchez defeats Miller via unanimous decision Diego Sanchez: “I was a little more cautious. I didn’t leave it all out there like I normally do, but I needed to get back in the win column. Jim is dangerous so I played it safe. He said he was going to choke me in his interviews, so I built that into my game plan and I was expecting him to look for it. I’ve worked hard to get back to my wrestling, that was my core and my background. I knew I had to get back in there as soon as possible after my fight in November. I enjoyed the Holidays with my family and then I got right back into camp. “The Nightmare” is back!” Jim Miller: “I was not surprised by the takedowns, he was a grappler from the beginning so I knew it was there. I wasted the first by not scrambling more and I’m not a fan of scrambling when I’m stuck between the cage. The choke I had was there and he had to respect it, I felt him fading a bit but it was hard to finish a high level guy like him. I used the knees as well, but his head was a little low so it made it a little hard for those to be finishing shots. I’m just looking to get back soon and continue to fight on big cards, the only thing I can guarantee is when I fight, I’ll fight my butt off; I can’t guarantee that I’ll win.”

Vitor Miranda vs Marcelo Guimarães - Round 1The fighters touch gloves and Miranda starts off with a big headkick. Guimaraes fires back though and puts his back up against the cage. Miranda gets his man down to floor but isn't able to get any offense away. Both men are back on their feet, Guimaraes again cliches Miranda up against the cage and uses his weight to tire him. Miranda fires in some quick elbows but very little is happening as Guimaraes constatly fails to take his man down. The referee finally steps in and puts both men back in the centre of the Octagon. Miranda fires in a quick jab, Guimaraes replies with some weak looking leg kicks. Guimaraes 10-9
