Jon Jones submitted Ciryl Gane in the first round to win the vacant heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 285.
Jones had not fought in three years, but the former two-time light-heavyweight champion showed very few signs of ring rust, as he took down Gane early and forced the Frenchman to tap out to a guillotine choke.
Jones, 35, is seen by many as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, though the American’s career has also been marred by numerous failed drug tests and run-ins with the law. He once again proved his talents here, however, requiring just two minutes to beat former interim champion Gane, 32, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In the co-main event, Alexa Grasso stunned Valentina Shevchenko with a fourth-round submission to win the women’s flyweight belt and hand her opponent a first loss in six years. With that result, Grasso became the first female Mexican champion in UFC history. She also became the third active Mexican champion, with Brandon Moreno currently holding the men’s flyweight belt and Yair Rodriguez serving as interim men’s featherweight champion.

Both men try leg locks simultaneously! Brunson stays calm, slips his leg free and then circles around Du Plessis to take the back!
Both men soon stand, though, and Brunson catches the South African with a left hand as Du Plessis looks to move away.
He tags Du Plessis hard and chases him to the mat! Brunson again takes the back, this time trying for a rear naked choke, but Du Plessis doesn’t panic.
He is able to escape, stand, and land a clean elbow off the break as the round ends.

Brunson catches a kick early and drives Du Plessis to the mat. Brunson tries to isolate the South African’s arm for an Americana, but Du Plessis fights out of it.
As he stands, Brunson tries for a guillotine, but again Du Plessis escapes. Now he’s in the American’s full guard, throwing elbows.

Between rounds, Araujo’s corner tells her: “Vivi, we need to knock her out.” The last round might well have been a 10-8 for Ribas, although Araujo probably won the first round 10-9. So, if Araujo wins this round 10-9, we’re looking at a draw.
Araujo buries a left hook into Ribas’ ribcage. Ribas with a spinning back kick to the body.
Now Ribas lands a clean right cross, the shot that first dropped her compatriot in Round 2.

Ribas pours on punches in half-guard, while intermittently looking to advance an arm-triangle choke attempt.
Araujo creates a bit of space and turns away, but that allows Ribas to take the back.

Almost out of nowhere at the start of this round, Ribas drops Araujo with a straight punch as her fellow Brazilian comes forward!
Araujo springs to her feet but is soon put down again – she never fully regained her senses!
