Marty McKenna has endured a difficult 2019 and has credited the fledgling FAME MMA promotion with helping him to deal with the grief of losing two of his family members.

Speaking during the face-to-face program prior to the fight, he said: "I lost me mam and my brother to drink and drugs.

"My older brother died of drugs at a session; my mam died through drinking all the time because of me brother and then me two sisters couldn't handle it so they ended up killing themselves."

He added: "When I'm going to the gym and training it does release endorphins and it makes me feel happy so I'm not sitting dwelling on s***."

We're not very far away from the first fight of the evening!

YouTuber Casey Barker will be taking on Callum Markie.

The broadcast has started and it begins with ... an interview with reality TV star and Bellator fighter Aaron Chalmers.

"When I first started out it was a situation and like this and I only wanted to have one fight," he said.

Will any of the celebrities involved tonight go on to enjoy similar MMA careers?

Incidentally, his next fight will be against the American Austin Clem (3-1-0) at Bellator Dublin in February.

The Newcastle Arena does not look particularly full, it has to be said.

The entire top-tier appears to be roped off while there are a lot of empty seats lower down.

But, in fairness, it is still early into the night...

The MC is inside the cage and big lad Charlie Sloth is currently doing his thing on the decks.

I don't think we're too far away from some action!

The full roster of fighters are currently up on stage being introduced by Mr Sloth.

He's shouting. Lots.

A Polish presenter is currently in the cage with Charlie Sloth, bantering about being a "fat bro".

This is all very bizarre. It's like a low-rent fighting Eurovision. But it's time for the first fight!

Casey Barker is the first to the cage.
