From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. It’s finals weekend at Wimbledon and after an astonishing Friday, the drama is set to continue with the women’s final between Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber.

Williams is bidding to win her 24th Grand Slam, a feat that would match Margaret Court’s record, and should she do just that, it will be one of the most remarkable victories ever seen in the game given that she gave birth to her daughter just 10 months ago. But Kerber will be no pushover, with the two-time Grand Slam winner looking to get back to her best form.

Yet before that match, we had the small matter of completing Friday’s action. Kevin Anderson’s mammoth five-set victory, which finished 26-24 in the deciding set, delayed the second semi-final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and when they resumed the match on Saturday afternoon is was Nadal who came out flying to win the fourth set and take it to a decisive fifth. However, Djokovic had enough in the tank to claim the final set 10-8 and reach his first Grand Slam final since the US Open two years ago.

Angelique Kerber 4-3 Serenea Williams*

A double-fault from Serena Williams, well then. Naturally it's followed by some great attacking play as Kerber sees her first of three break points reduced. Another break point slips away with another powerful serve, but Kerber gets the break of serve after pilling on the pressure.

New ball but some of the same errors from Williams who is almost overthinking some of her chances to get over her opponent. Kerber is doing well to repel Williams' powerful forehand, an excellent hold.

Williams challenges a call which is clearly out as she uses the time to regroup. A volley then goes into the net which gives Kerber a 0-30 advantage. The American tries to battle her way back into the set but Kerber is hitting everything back at her. 30-40 to the German, set point.

Angelique Kerber 6-3 Serenea Williams

Kerber takes the first set. Williams threw a lot at her but she always believed she would return the ball. Williams grew uncomfortable with Kerber who was able to neutralise the American's power.

Unforced errors in the first set

Serena Williams: 14

Angelique Kerber: 3

1-0

How does she do it? Kerber returns a cross court effort which Williams will never have expected to be coming back to her. She follows that up and gets low to return the ball along the line as Williams watches in amazement.

It's going well for Kerber so far

1-1

Kerber has the answer to everything Williams is throwing at her. It appears that the American is short on conviction as she edges forward from her baseline, questions about her movement remain. Having said that, Kerber thinks she's about to be on break point with a stunning low return but Williams's reads her intentions and meets the ball at the net, then takes the game to stop a run of five wins for Kerber.

2-1

A cry of 'come on' from Williams who is being thrown all around the court. Her clinical execution is still far from what it needs to be if she is going to beat Kerber, a volley presents itself to Williams who has her opponent for the taking, but it's soft and Kerber returns to take the point then game.

2-2

Better from Williams who makes up for that earlier missed volley at the net with just that this time around. Kerber now strays from her consistent returning and makes an error to hand the game to Williams.

Angelique Kerber* 6-3 Serenea Williams

3-2

Kerber is serving with so much confidence at the moment. She is pushing forward after serving and Williams is struggling to battle back after returning her first serve. Williams hits back and 40-0 becomes deuce. The American produces a wayward shot and Kerber holds.
