From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Karolina Pliskova was the final top-10 seed to be eliminated on Monday as she lost to Kiki Bertens in straight sets in one of the biggest shocks of the day.
That means the draw has opened up even more, with Serena Williams ominously creeping back to her best. The 25 seed faces Camila Giorgi second on Centre Court.

Williams 3-6 6-3 5-3 Giorgi*
Williams holds to love - again. When the American's service game is this strong, there's really not much you can do.
*Williams 3-6 6-3 5-4 Giorgi
Giorgi is going down fighting. There's a bit more bite to her shots now and she's enjoying particular success in pushing Williams out to the right to the point where the American cannot clear the net with her returns. After being steamrolled in the last game, the Italian holds serve to love. Serena will have to serve out for the match.
Game. Set. Match
Williams 3-6 6-3 6-4 Giorgi
A masterclass from Williams who serves out for the match without dropping a point. A netted return from Giorgi was the final point Serena needed to secure victory. The former world No 1 is into the semi-finals of Wimbledon!
Women's quarter-finals - the results:
- Kasatkina defeated 6-3 7-5 by Kerber
- Giorgi defeated 3-6 6-3 6-4 by Williams
- Cibulkova defeated 7-5 6-4 by Ostapenko
- Bertens defeated 3-6 7-5 6-1 by Gorges
That was a real test of Williams' mettle but the American passed with flying colours. After falling a set behind, Serena responded in typical fashion as she used her service game to deadly affected against Giorgi. The Italian, for her part, acquitted herself well in her first Grand Slam appearance but she lacked the means to deal with her opponent's serves which ultimately settled this match. It was a close affair but one Serena deserved to win.
Juan Martin del Potro powered through to only his second Wimbledon quarter-final after beating Gilles Simon.
Del Potro, whose best run at the All England Club saw him reach the semi-finals in 2013, triumphed 7-6 (7/1) 7-6 (7/5) 5-7 7-6 (7/5) to set up a last-eight meeting with Rafael Nadal.
The fourth-round match resumed on Tuesday afternoon after bad light had stopped play on Monday with the Argentinian leading by two sets to one.
Simon had an early break in the fourth set, but Del Potro hit back and was on the verge of victory until the Frenchman saved four match points to take it to another tie-break.
Del Potro raised his game again, though, claiming his third tie-break success of the match to book his date with Nadal.
