From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The path to an eighth Wimbledon title appears wide open for Roger Federer as the Swiss goes into Friday's semi-final against Tomas Berdych in imperious form and heavily favoured to claim a record-extending 19th grand slam crown.

Federer is the only member of the so-called "big four" left in the draw after Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic all failed to make it past the quarter-finals and few would bet against the 35-year-old from claiming victory on a surface he loves.

The third seed is two victories away from moving clear of Pete Sampras and William Renshaw at the top of the list of men's Wimbledon champions and will meet either Croatia's Marin Cilic or American Sam Querrey should he get past Berdych.

Federer has yet to drop a set at this year's championships and the form guide suggests he will prevail against Berdych, with the Swiss on a seven-match winning streak against the Czech player, who has not beaten him since 2013.

Cilic* 6(6)-7 6-4 7-6(3) 1-3 Querrey (*denotes next server)

Cilic begins the game with a backhand winner but Querrey levels the game up at 15-15 with an easy volley. The Croat wins the next point with a dipping backhand pass before Querrey fluffs his lines with a routine overhead to offer his opponent two break points. He saves the first with a huge forehand down the line and the second also goes begging for Cilic as he sends a forehand into the tramlines. Querrey wins the next two points courtesy of an ace and an unreturnable serve to hold.

Cilic 6(6)-7 6-4 7-6(3) 2-3 Querrey* (*denotes next server)

Cilic holds to love courtesy of a couple of aces, a forehand winner and a Querrey mistake.

Cilic 6(6)-7 6-4 7-6(3) 5-4 Querrey* (*denotes next server)

Querrey wins the first point of the game with a delightful half-volley drop shot but hits the top of the net with a return to lose the next point. A Cilic ace follows before an unreturnable serve brings up two game points. The seventh seed squanders the first with a netted backhand but takes the second as a backhand return by Querrey sails long.

The American will serve to stay in the match after the change of ends.

Cilic* 6(6)-7 6-4 7-6(3) 5-5 Querrey (*denotes next server)

Querrey begins the game with an ace but nets a groundstroke to lose the next point. At 15-15 Cilic misses back-to-back backhands to hand two game points to the American... and he needs just one as Cilic nets a forehand return.

Federer vs Berdych next up

Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych are currently going through their warm-up on Centre Court.

The pair have met on 24 previous occasions, with Federer winning 18 of them and Berdych coming out on top just six times.

Federer* 0-1 Berdych (*denotes next server)

Berdych starts with a big serve-forehand combo but Federer dominates the next point, winning it with a weighty forehand that Berdych can barely get his racket too. The Czech sends a backhand long to fall 15-30 behind on his serve but brings game point up courtesy of a missed Federer passing shot followed by an unreturnable serve. The Swiss hauls the game to deuce with a forehand pass down the line before Berydch sends a backhand into the tramlines to hand the seven-time champion an early break point. Federer squanders it with a forehand before Berdych wins the next two points to hold.

Federer 1-1 Berdych* (*denotes next server)

A missed Berdych backhand followed by an unreturnable Federer serve puts the Swiss 30-0 up in the game. He sends a forehand long to lose the next point but another unreturnable serve backed up by an inside-out forehand winner seals the game,

Federer* 1-2 Berdych (*denotes next server)

A much easier service game for Berdych than his opening one as he holds to 15.

Ed Malyon14 July 2017 16:40

Federer* 3-2 Berdych (*denotes next server)

Federer misses with a return to lose the opening point on Berdych's serve before levelling the game up at 15-15 as the Czech floats a defensive backhand long. The Swiss narrowly misses the mark with back-to-back backhands to hand Berdych two game points... but the 10th seed can't take either as an unforced backhand error is followed by a rather forced mistake on the forehand side.

Federer brings up another break point with a short forehand winner down the line... but can't take it as he nets a forehand. After three deuces Federer gets lucky with a net cord to bring up another break point... and this time he takes it with a drive forehand volley.
