Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Day nine of the Wimbledon Championships sees a whole host of big names in action with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Serena Williams all on court at SW19.

Eight-time champion Federer is back in action on Centre Court against Kei Nishikori where defending champion Novak Djokovic will open proceedings against David Goffin of Belgium.

On Court One it'll be Argentina's Guido Pella and Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain opening things up before Nadal returns to face Sam Querrey of the United States in the final men's quarter-final.

And later on Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be in action too as they continue their much-anticipated mixed doubles campaign.

First up, it's Elina Svitolina (8) against Simona Halep (7), before Serena Williams (11) takes on Barbora Strycova.

Halep and Svitolina are now warming up on Centre Court!

We're all ready on Centre Court - Simona Halep to serve!

Kieran Jackson11 July 2019 13:08

Svitolina 0-0 Halep* (40-40)

Halep recovers from 0-30 to 40-30, but the Romanian goes wide with a backhand down the line, and we're at deuce in the first game of the match.

Some very long rallies so far, with both players seemingly happy to trade strokes for now...

Kieran Jackson11 July 2019 13:12

Svitolina 0-0 Halep* (ad Svitolina)

Halep double faults, and it's BREAK POINT...

Kieran Jackson11 July 2019 13:12

Svitolina 0-0 Halep* (40-40)

BREAK POINT SAVED, as Halep takes the initiative in the rally, with Svitolina slightly too defensive in that exchange...

Kieran Jackson11 July 2019 13:13

Svitolina 0-0 Halep* (40-40)

Halep saves a 2nd break point, as another long exchange is won by Halep with a fizzing backhand winner crosscourt!

That was a 23-shot rally!
