Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Roger Federer returns to Centre Court on Tuesday as he opens his Wimbledon 2019 campaign with a match against South African youngster Lloyd Harris.
He will be followed by Serena Williams, who is attempting to win at SW19 for an eighth time. She plays Italian outsider Giulia Gatto-Monticone, who is making her Wimbledon debut aged 31.
Elsewhere, new World No 1 Ashleigh Barty will begin proceedings on Court No 1 with a match against Saisai Zheng.
British number one Johanna Konta is also in action, with a first round clash against the Romanian Ana Bogdan, who has never been beyond the second round at Wimbledon.

Follow the live action below:
*Kyrgios 7-6(4) 3-6 1-2 Thompson
Kyrgios took a medical timeout following the second set, but seems to be OK.
Three relatively comfortable holds from both players to start off the second set...
Here's the low backhand pass (cover drive) which Kyrgios remarked about in the second set!
*Kyrgios 7-6(4) 3-6 2-3 Thompson
Despite moving fairly precariously, Kyrgios just about holds serve from deuce no.3, after his 1st serve (as has been the case throughout this match) gets him out of trouble. Thompson throws his racket down, after a point at deuce he really should have won.
Thompson regains his composure though, and holds with ease.
CENTRE COURT UPDATE
Defending champion Angelique Kerber is about to get play underway on Centre Court, against Tatjana Maria of Germany.
COURT NO.1 UPDATE
Meanwhile on Court 1, World Number 1 Ashleigh Barty is opening proceedings against world number 43 Saisai Zheng.
Kyrgios 7-6(4) 3-6 3-3 Thompson* (40-40)
Kyrgios holds to love, and has an opportunity at 15-30 on Thompson's serve...
This time though, it's the 25-year-old's serve which gets him to 40-30, before a weak drop shot dollies into the net.
Deuce.
*Kyrgios 7-6(4) 3-6 3-4 Thompson
Thompson escapes with two big serves. Still on serve in this crucial third set...
BRIT UPDATE
It's level pegging at 3-3 in the deciding set between Harriet Dart and Christina McHale on court 14.
On court 17, James Ward is two sets to one up against 18th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili, while on 18, Dan Evans is two sets up against Federico Delbonis of Argentina - currently on serve at 3-3 in the third set.
Promising stuff...
Kyrgios 7-6(4) 3-6 4-4 Thompson*
Nothing to choose between these two so far in this third set...
Kyrgios holds to 30 from 30-30, as his 1st serve continues to flourish.
