Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Roger Federer returns to Centre Court on Tuesday as he opens his Wimbledon 2019 campaign with a match against South African youngster Lloyd Harris.

He will be followed by Serena Williams, who is attempting to win at SW19 for an eighth time. She plays Italian outsider Giulia Gatto-Monticone, who is making her Wimbledon debut aged 31.

Elsewhere, new World No 1 Ashleigh Barty will begin proceedings on Court No 1 with a match against Saisai Zheng.

British number one Johanna Konta is also in action, with a first round clash against the Romanian Ana Bogdan, who has never been beyond the second round at Wimbledon.

*Harris 6-3 1-6 2-4 Federer (40-40)

Harris saves a break point as Federer, unusually for him, sloppily nets a return.

Deuce.

FEDERER BREAKS AGAIN!

This set is near enough matching the second!

As both players waste opportunities to win the game, Federer eventually claims it as Harris' forehand goes astray.

Federer will serve for a two sets to one lead, with a double break lead in his back pocket.

FEDERER WINS THE THIRD SET!

Fed holds to love, as Harris nets a backhand slice. Bizarre match which has only lasted one hour and 19 minutes...

Harris looks to be receiving some medical treatment here...

Kieran Jackson2 July 2019 16:10

And indeed, Harris is now receiving a three-minute medical time-out.

Harris 6-3 1-6 2-6 1-0 Federer*

Harris looks to be OK, and holds pretty efficiently to 15, securing it with an ace down the T which clips the chalk.

*Harris 6-3 1-6 2-6 1-1 Federer

Four serves unreturned. I'm willing to bet that that game took less than a minute...
