From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The second round proved the end of the road for Heather Watson as she was knocked out by Anett Kontaveit early in the day, with former men's Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka also a shock exit on Wednesday afternoon. Karolina Pliskova successfully negotiated Monica Puig on Centre Court, with Kyle Edmund the biggest casualty losing to Fernando Verdasco before Novak Djokovic takes on Denis Kudla.
However, all eyes will be on No 2 Court where 15-year-old Gauff returns to action fresh from her incredible victory over Venus Williams. Follow all the action and results live.

Edmund 6-4 5-4 Verdasco* (40-40)
Stunning, exhausting point at Ad Verdasco, which Edmund eventually wins with a forehand winner whipped down the line!
He then gees up the crowd, who are loving it. Back to deuce.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 Verdasco
UNBELIEVABLE - EDMUND WINS THE SECOND SET!
Verdasco double faults at deuce (after unsuccessfully challenging the first serve), but then he takes control of the point.
He hits a forehand down the line which Edmund barely gets back, but instead of putting away a simple volley, he lets the ball go and it lands flat on the sideline!
Crowd can't believe it, nor can Edmund... nor can I!
For the second set running, Verdasco has handed the initiative right into Edmund's hands. And it's a long way back now...
Both players have gone for a toilet break following the set's conclusion...

RESULTS UPDATE
Milos Raonic, the 2016 finalist, is through to the third round - he beat Robin Haase 7-6(1), 7-5, 7-6(4) and will play Stan Wawrinka's conqueror Reilly Opelka on Friday.
11th seed Daniil Medvedev is also through - he came from a set down to beat Australian qualifier Alexei Popyrin 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
Qualifier Jiri Vesely, who reached the fourth round last year, beat Pablo Cuevas 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4.
And Benoit Paire will play on Friday, as his opponent Miomir Kecmanovic retired hurt whilst two sets down.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 1-0 Verdasco*
Edmund holds with ease at the beginning of the third, with Verdasco mistiming off both wings.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 1-0 Verdasco* (15-40)
Again, most of this is Verdasco's doing... another routine forehand missed, and TWO BREAK POINTS for Kyle early on.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 2-0 Verdasco
EDMUND BREAKS!
I don't believe it, Verdasco has double faulted again! This time, second serve dollies into the net.
His 5th of the match, but boy have they all come at crucial moments.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 3-0 Verdasco*
Big hold for Edmund to 30, who lets out a big "Let's go!" as Verdasco's backhand sails long (again).
Can the Spaniard fine some form to get back into this match?
