Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow the latest updates live from day three at Wimbledon where men’s world No 1 Novak Djokovic is back in second round action, as well as British No 1 Kyle Edmund and the American teenage sensation Cori Gauff.

The second round proved the end of the road for Heather Watson as she was knocked out by Anett Kontaveit early in the day, with former men's Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka also a shock exit on Wednesday afternoon. Karolina Pliskova successfully negotiated Monica Puig on Centre Court, with Kyle Edmund the biggest casualty losing to Fernando Verdasco before Novak Djokovic takes on Denis Kudla.

However, all eyes will be on No 2 Court where 15-year-old Gauff returns to action fresh from her incredible victory over Venus Williams. Follow all the action and results live.

Gauff 1-0 Rybarikova*

Solid start for the 15-year-old, who doesn't look overawed by the occasion... then again, why would she - she's "living the dream!"

Gauff 2-1 Rybarikova*

Two love holds, no problem.

Should be noted that Magdalena Rybarikova does have some grass court pedigree of her own - the Slovakian reached the semi-finals here at Wimbledon in 2017.

Gauff 3-2 Rybarikova*

Entertaining couple of games. At 30-30 in Gauff's game, she runs to make a drop shot pass, and gets the call on hawkeye. She closes it out, nice even contest so far.

Court 1 gradually filling up...

*Gauff 4-2 Rybarikova

GAUFF BREAKS, TO LOVE!

A combination of stunningly good footwork and shot selection gives Gauff the advantage... she looks so, so focused out on court here!

Kieran Jackson3 July 2019 20:28

*Gauff 5-2 Rybarikova

Gauff holds to 15 - she has barely put a foot wrong so far. So impressive.

Kieran Jackson3 July 2019 20:32

*Gauff 5-3 Rybarikova

Crucial hold for Rybarikova, she's making Gauff serve it out.
