Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow live coverage from day six at Wimbledon where Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal all in action.

The Scot, who returned to SW19 with a bang in the men's doubles on Thursday, finally gets his mixed doubles campaign underway alongside 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams after being made to wait by teenage sensation Cori Gauff on Friday evening. Murray was also in men's doubles action alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert earlier in the day. Elsewhere eight-time champ Federer continued his march to what he hopes will be another All England title while Nadal faced Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the match of the day on Centre Court.

We'll have all the latest for you throughout the day:

MATCHES TO BE ARRANGED NOT BEFORE 17.30

Andy Murray (GBR) / Serena Williams (USA) or Andreas Mies (GER) / Alexa Guarachi (CHI) 6

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 13:30

*Williams 4-2 Goerges

BREAK! And it's Williams who draws first blood.

The American took the game to two-break points with an angled backhand that Goerges could only flap at. The German looked ruffled, netting on the next point to gift the seven-time Wimbledon champion the first break of the match.

TENNIS ROYALTY!

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 13:31

Williams 5-2 Goerges*

Williams holds comfortably. The American is finding her groove now. Can't see this set lasting too much longer...

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 13:33

Barty 3-0 Dart*

Ash Barty has the early break on Centre, after capitalising during a game which went to deuce.

Dart lost 6-0 6-0 to Maria Sharapova at the Australian Open on the Rod Laver Arena in January, so she'll want to get on the board as soon as possible here...

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 13:33

Herbert/Murray 2-1 Mektic/Skugor*

A comfortable hold apiece for both teams, with Mektic and Skugor looking to finish the point off quickly at the net when possible.

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 13:34

Williams 6-3 Goerges

And that's the first set wrapped up!

The American was made to work for it but she eventually got over the line on the third set point, firing across a curled forehand winner that landed plum on the sideline.

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 13:41

Barty 5-0 Dart

Over on Centre Court it looks like Britain's Harriet Dart is being taken to the cleaners. She's now 5-0 down, having been broken twice on her serve. She'll need to up her game if she's to put up any form of resistance against the world No 1, who has looked formidable so far at these Championships.

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 13:43

*Herbert/Murray 2-2 Mektic/Skugor

Blimey, that was a long old game!

An early break opportunity for Herbert and Murray at 30-40, but Skugor hits an irretrievable serve out wide to save it.

However, the Croat's game point opportunities are thwarted: with a trademark spot-on Murray return to the feet of Skugor, and then an attacking volley from Herbert forcing the error not once, not twice, not three times (alright... the third volley was a clean out winner) but four times.

On deuce no.7 though, Murray hits a volley lob and Mektic bizarrely lets it bounce on the line - Murray puts away the subsequent smash... yet the break point is scuppered by a big Skugor serve.

But some quick reaction volleys by Mektic eventually clinch the game for the sixth seeds!

CENTRE COURT UPDATE

Ash Barty has won the first set against Britain's Harriet Dart, but Dart did get on the board at 5-0! 1st set to Barty though, 6-1.

Barty also has an early break in the second set, and leads 2-0.
