From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Roger Federer is safely through to the second round of Wimbledon despite dropping the first set to little-known South African Lloyd Harris.

The eight-times champion had a set taken off him in his first-round match at Wimbledon for only the second time in 17 years.

But Federer, the second seed, recovered to beat 22-year-old SW19 debutant Harris 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-2. Follow the live action below:

Sugita 3-6 1-6 0-0 Nadal* (40-40)

Early test for Rafa here, who did have 15-30 in this game. Few errors from both players, and we're at deuce.

Sugita 3-6 1-6 0-0 Nadal* (Ad Sugita)

A few inaccurate backhands from Nadal, who had game point, and there's a break point chance for Sugita here early on...

Sugita 3-6 1-6 0-0 Nadal* (40-40)

Sugita goes long with a forehand, big chance.

Deuce no.3.

*Sugita 3-6 1-6 0-1 Nadal

Sugita struggling to find his range, handing a get-out-of-jail free card to Rafa.
