This appeared a golden chance for Konta to become the first British woman to win a slam singles title since Virginia Wade at Wimbledon in 1977, but she let winning positions in both sets slip away and went down 7-5 7-6 (2).
In the end it was 19-year-old Vondrousova who showed the greater composure, coming back from 5-3 down in both sets. Re-live the action below:

*Konta 5-4 Vondrousova
Good response from Konta as she fires over an ace. 15-0.
Konta 5-5 Vondrousova*
Konta fluffs her lines on the next point, sending a backhand into the net. 15-15. Some poor decision-making then lets her down as she goes for the drop shot, which Vondrousova comfortably returns for the point. 15-30. A winner followed by an unforced error and we're at 30-40.
The Czech clinches the game with a sweeping backhand shot that lands well behind Konta after the Brit had rushed to the net.
The gap between these two has been well and truly closed after a strong start from Britain's No 1.
*Konta 5-6 Vondrousova (* denotes next server)
A slip in focus from both these women sees Vondrousova double fault before Konta makes back-to-back unforced errors. But it's the Czech who holds her nerve, seeing out the game with a forehand winner to take the lead in this match for the first time. 5-6.
*Konta 5-6 Vondrousova
Umm, Konta's edge seems to have gone a little bit as she makes another sloppy error on her backhand. Vondrousova returns the favour on the next point with her own mistake, but the Briton certainly looks to be fading. 15-15.
*Konta 5-6 Vondrousova
More unforced errors from Konta and it's now Vondrousova who has set point...
Konta 5-7 Vondrousova
The Czech has done it! After a slow start, she's sneaked this first set. Konta only has herself to blame after making a number of unforced errors which handed her opponent the advantage.
*Konta 5-7 0-1 Vondrousova
The Czech keeps the ball rolling as she easily takes the opening game of this second set. An ace followed by a sublime drop shot is enough to get the job done on the final two points. Konta faces a real task now in shifting the momentum of this match.
*Konta 5-7 0-1 Vondrousova
After a 10-shot rally, it's Konta who blinks first as she sends a forehand shot wide of the tramlines. She gathers her thoughts and lands back-to-back winners, one of which was a deftly-placed drop shot executed to precision. She takes the next point too but another unforced error sees the game move to 40-30.
Konta 5-7 1-1 Vondrousova*
Phew. The Czech nets. Konta holds. That was much-needed.
