Novak Djokovic is the 2019 Australian Open champion after crushing Rafael Nadal in a surprisingly one-sided men's final in Melbourne.

The world No 1 and world No 2 met for the 53rd time but there was only ever one winner at Melbourne Park as the Serb exploded out of the blocks and won going away 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 after breaking the Spaniard's serve five times and only facing one break point himself. The victory, a seventh Down Under, moves him one clear of Roger Federer as the most decorated male player in the tournament's history.

Here's how it all played out:

Djokovic 6-3 2-2 Nadal* (0-30)

Nadal just can't find his range at the moment, and two more errors bring his unforced error count to 17.

A first ace of the match for Nadal, but Djokovic dominates the point to set up two more break points..

Rafa is drawn into the net with a drop shot, but goes long with a tricky follow-up volley lob.

Momentum firmly with Djokovic in this match now...

*Djokovic 6-3 3-2 Nadal (30-30)

A few rare errors by Djokovic gives Nadal a glimpse at 15-30, but the Serb hits a winner with his forehand.

Still a chance here for Rafa.

Big game for both players this, but especially Nadal.

They win a long point each, and we're at deuce.

Djokovic 6-3 4-2 Nadal*

That is so so good by Djokovic.

Rafa saves a game point with a vintage forehand down the line, but Djokovic continues to dominate the long rallies with his backhand, forcing Nadal into the error.

The Serb lets out a huge roar, and his two-game cushion is restored.

In this form, Djokovic is unstoppable.

The Serb is simply full of it at the moment, hitting winners from all corners to bring up two break points.

*Djokovic 6-3 5-2 Nadal

Rafa nets with a backhand, and Djokovic has the double break.

Nadal didn't too much wrong in that game - Djokovic was just peerless.

He'll serve for a two-set lead...

Another love hold, and Djokovic has a two-set lead after an hour and 16 minutes.

Nadal has a mountain to climb now.

Very true...
