From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The Lions are out on the pitch at the Glasshouse as Luke Whitelock leads out the Highlanders to a great roar.
Here we go then, Biggar thumps the ball high into the night and we are off!
1 min: A fairly even start to the game so far. The ground here has been described as a cricket pitch so expect lots of running rugby. The Highlanders do look up for this...
3 mins: The Highlanders just had two great chances on both sides of the pitch. It took a strong stop from Jared Payne on the right and then a well-time tackle from Robbie Henshaw. We do come back for the penalty for the offside though and Lima Sopoaga kicks the three points. 3-0.
6 mins: Webb is providing some really quick ball for the Lions and his forwards are attacking the gainline brilliantly. They've made a lot of ground but they're held up and the Highlanders do well to win the penalty. We're shaping up for our first scrum of the game now.
10 mins: An absolutely thumping hit from Webb on Fekitoa to send him into touch. He really meant that.
11 mins: That's what Webb can bring you! The drive from the lineout was stuck and a standstill and Webb sneaks around the blindside, throws a fantastic dummy and sets the Lions away. Incidentally, Fekitoa is off for a head injury assessment from Webb's earlier hit.
13 mins: Webb, who has been outstanding so far in Dunedin, makes another break but Haskell knocks on and the pressure is given up. The Lions must learn to take these chances.
15 mins: TRY OR NO TRY?
That's the question. They're checking two tries here. First by Tommy Seymour and secondly by Rhys Webb. We look at Seymour's first, it's very close but it doesn't look like it. And the second... Webb loses control of it as he grounds it. Neither will be a try. We go back for a penalty for offside.
The Lions have to start taking these chances.
