The All Blacks secured a relatively comfortable 30-15 victory in the first Test at Eden Park, in which they physically dominated the Lions and outscored them three tries to two. The win led many to believe that the series was already a foregone conclusion, given New Zealand had not lost a Test at home since 2009.
That was until the second Test at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, when a red card for Sonny Bill Williams changed the course of the series. The Lions took full advantage of the extra man to secure a thrilling 24-21 victory and outscore the reigning world champions two tries to nil, setting up the series for a shootout back in Auckland.
The Lions have not beaten the All Blacks over the course of a Test series since the famous 1971 tour, and it remains the only time that they have triumphed over them in their 129-year history.

This is the biggest game every single one of these players will play in in their lives. Not many players get the chance to win a Lions tour in New Zealand but today 23 of them do.
And here come the All Blacks! Led by Kieran Read on the occasion of his 100th cap. He steps out on the Eden Park turf by himself and is then followed by the rest of his Kiwis.
Here we have it - Johnny Sexton sends the ball high into the Auckland night and the third Test is underway!
1 min: The Lions think they've turned it over but it's the first penalty concession of the match already. Can Barrett banish his kicking demons from last week...?
HE CAN'T! He's missed it from in front of the posts again! That's exactly what the Lions needed.
... but it stands!
Beauden Barrett has a go from the touchline... and he's got it! 7-0
19 mins: Farrell has a chance to redeem himself here with a penalty... he gets it! 7-3
20 mins: Liam Williams has just been hit by the Savea steam train! Huge hit by the winger!
27 mins: Laumape now with the chance to go through but the pass rebounds off him and forward! They have had a number of golden opportunities but the gap is still only four points.
30 mins: Penalty to the Lions and that was a huge hit from Davies on Jordi Barrett! And it's that man Sam Warburton straight into the breakdown to turn it over.
