Hadleigh Parkes' try inside just 70 seconds set the tone before fly-half Gareth Anscombe took over from the tee to add a further 20 points as the hosts hit the front and never looked back.
Ireland scored with the final play of the game to avoid being left scoreless but it was a day to forget for them in Cardiff.

The line out bounces free and into Conor Murray's hand in the channel down the wing, Murray powering to within a metre before the ball squirms free.
It somehow evades the onrushing Irish cohort but it hit a red boot last and thus it will be Irish ball.

They fail to generate any semblance of movement at the ball and are given a hasty call to use it when it finally does start to rumble.
Hadleigh Parkes shuts down Jacob Stockdale's charge, and then Justin Tipuric gets his hands on the pill at the ruck, disrupting the quality of the ball and eventually forcing a knock on.
Ireland make a brace of changes.
Dave Kilcoyne and Quinn Roux replace Cian Healy and Tadgh Beirne.

Ireland lose possession in midfield and Wales hack through, Keith Earls appearing to carry over his own line before grounding.
Angus Gardner quickly rules otherwise, but again the replay proves him wrong.
Wales will have a five-metre scrum, and the crowd roars their team on as they pack down.
