From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wales thrashed Ireland 25-7 to win the Six Nations Grand Slam.

Hadleigh Parkes' try inside just 70 seconds set the tone before fly-half Gareth Anscombe took over from the tee to add a further 20 points as the hosts hit the front and never looked back.

Ireland scored with the final play of the game to avoid being left scoreless but it was a day to forget for them in Cardiff.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 27 minutes

A ruck collapses on itself and the ball is unplayable, Ireland retaining possession of the ball ten metres from the Wales line centrally.

Ross Moriarty nearly gets himself in hot water charging in after-the-fact. Signs of niggle out there...

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 28 minutes

Ireland win the free kick, Conor Murray throws to the back and CJ Stander fumbles the quick tap!

Kicked into his own player in front of him, accidental offside: Welsh scrum.

A real waste from Stander, who rather rushed his attempted tap, which ultimately flew right off his shin. Uncharacteristic.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 29 minutes

Ross Moriarty carries from the base and makes enough ground to aid the clearance, and Jonathan Davies duly obliges with a raking left-footed punt, a good chase preventing Rob Kearney from taking a quick throw.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 30 minutes

And Wales make a mess of the Irish line out, Conor Murray knocking on as he tries to salvage scrappy ball.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 31 minutes

Strong scrum from Wales, Rob Evans getting into Tadhg Furlong and forcing the tighthead to change his angle of drive.

Angus Gardner whistles, Wales kick into the Ireland 22.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 33 minutes

Angus Gardner is hot on players going off their feet at ruck time.

Wales are guilty on this occasion as Ross Moriarty makes good ground, Josh Navidi diving straight over the top as Tadgh Beirne steps away from the contest.

Wales 10-0 Ireland, 34 minutes

A real wobbler to the front from Rory Best is tapped away by Adam Beard and back on to the Welsh side, Best exasperated but there's no offence on Wales' part.

Ireland are then offside. Wales penalty on the Irish ten-metre, and the tee is brought out for Gareth Anscombe. It's much more central than his earlier penalty.

PENALTY! Wales 13-0 Ireland (Gareth Anscombe penalty, 35 minutes)

On target again. Three from three for Anscombe, and Wales are building a good lead.

Wales 13-0 Ireland, 36 minutes

A lovely punt from Dan Biggar, drawing the ball down the right touchline wit the spiral of the ball taking it to floor inside the Ireland 22, enabling Wales to win the kicking battle and have a line out on the Irish side of halfway.

Harry Latham-Coyle16 March 2019 15:29

Wales 13-0 Ireland, 37 minutes

Wales maul and then box, and Biggar shows his prowess aerially, beating Jacob Stockdale in the air.

BIggar can't make anything of the situation with Ireland pushing him into touch, but a moment that underlines just how strong the fly-half is in the air on a wretched day weather-wise.
