Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Danny Cipriani will make his first England start in a decade as they look to avoid what would be a humiliating 3-0 whitewash series defeat against South Africa.
Having lost the first Test in Johannesburg and the second last week in Bloemfontein, England face one last chance to secure a victory against the Springboks at Cape Town’s Newlands Stadium in what has been a compelling Test series. Head coach Eddie Jones has elected to make a significant change at fly-half as Cipriani replaces George Ford – who doesn’t even make the replacements’ bench – while Joe Marler replaces Mako Vunipola and Nathan Hughes in for Billy Vunipola as the brothers have returned to the UK. The final change is illness-enforced as Brad Shields is replaced by Chris Robshaw.
South Africa have also made changes – five in total – as Chiliboy Ralepelle, Elton Jantjies, Andre Esterhuizen, Jesse Kriel, and Warrick Gelant all start, while Schalk Brits comes out of retirement for one last game as he is named on the bench.

Good afternoon and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of today's third Test between South Africa and England, brought to you from Newlands in Cape Town.
With kick-off a little over 20 minutes away, England are just going through their final preparations with the returning Danny Cipriani practicing his goalkicking alongside Owen Farrell and Elliot Daly.
The return of the Gloucester-bound fly-half is the talk of the town this week as it is surely his final chance to stake a claim for a place in the 2019 Rugby World Cup side. But as he said himself this week, he has no intention of letting this opportunity slip through his fingers.
Cipriani's return to the international fold is not only exciting for fans of the fly-half, as his former teammate Nathan Hughes admitted this week that he's looking forward to seeing what he can do at Newlands this afternoon.
Here's what he had to say:
With 10 minutes until kick-off, here's how the teams line up today:
South Africa: Warrick Gelant; S'busiso Nkosi, Jessie Kriel, Andre Esterhuizen, Aphiwe Dyantyi; Elton Jantjies, Faf de Klerk; Tendai Mtawarira, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Frans Malherbe; RG Snyman, Franco Mostert; Siya Kolisi, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Duane Vermeulen.
Replacements: Schalk Brits, Steven Kitshoff, Thomas du Toit, Jean-Luc du Plessis, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Embrose Papier, Handre Pollard, Willie le Roux.
England: Elliot Daly; Jonny May, Henry Slade, Owen Farrell, Mike Brown; Danny Cipriani, Ben Youngs; Joe Marler, Jamie George, Kyle Sinckler; Joe Launchbury, Maro Itoje; Chris Robshaw, Tom Curry, Nathan Hughes.
Replacements: Luke Cowan-Dickie, Alec Hepburn, Harry Williams, Jonny Hill, Mark Wilson, Sam Simmonds, Ben Spencer, Denny Solomona.
Of course, there's not Vunipola brothers for England today as Mako returned home for the birth of his first child, while Billy has suffered yet another injury by refracturing his arm last week. There's no Brad Shields either, as the flanker misses out through illness so Chris Robshaw is recalled, while George Ford is left out in favour of Danny Cipriani.
England run out to a fairly muted reception, with a largely partisan crowd hugely in favour of the Springboks. They've made a big song and dance about their introductions before the previous two Tests, and that'll be no different today as the African warriors run out ahead of their arrival - only to slip over on the drenched pitch!
It's a bit of a calamity this time around as they repeatedly slip over - but that's a big sign of what to expect today. The rain has been pelting it down all day, and while it's only just eased off, it's a slow track that will almost certainly limit the running rugby that this series has seen.
Time for the anthems.
That's the anthems out of the way, the pitch cleared and the last of the pyrotechnics fired. It's time for kick-off - here we go for the last time this season!
1 mins: May and Marler run the ball up before Youngs kicks away. Jantjies responds with his own and Daly can't take it, and the Springboks win back possession. There's a lot of water splashing up whenever players are tackled, and I'm afraid it looks like there's going to be an awful lot of high kicks today.
