From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ireland are coming into the fixture on the back of a 2016 which saw then beat all three Southern Hemisphere giants, Australia, South Africa and, most impressively, New Zealand.
What time does it start?
Kick-off is at 2.30pm on Saturday 4 January.
Where can I watch it?
The game is shown live on BBC1 at 10.30pm. You can also follow The Independent’s live blog for all the action.

79 mins: A big scrum this, and France do well to win the penalty advantage. Picamoles goes, and they spread right. Into the England half, but Te'o reads a pass perfectly and nails Spedding, man and ball. They have the penalty though, and Doussain commits a cardinal sin as he misses touch in the final minute!
80 mins: England stupidly kick the ball back to france, but they're on their 122 and it's knocked forwards!
ENGLAND BEAT FRANCE 19-16!
Full-time: England get over the line, but my word it was a close one! France were very impressive and were unlucky not to lead at the break, with England not having a chance in the first 40 minutes. But France tired, and where they're replacements failed, England's excelled. Ben Te'o cancelled out Rabah Slimani's score, and it proved enough to get the defending champions off to a winning start.
Full-time: Credit to France, that was one of their best performances at Twickenham for quite some time. But it just wasn't enough to inflict Eddie Jones's first defeat with the red rose. The result means England move into second place behind early leaders Scotland.
