From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England suffered their largest-ever home defeat as they were obliterated 53-10 by a rampant France in their Six Nations clash at Twickenham.

England were booed off by a half-empty Twickenham crowd at full-time, with many having left as things went from bad to worse across the 80 minutes as Les Bleus ran in seven tries.

The hosts offered minimal resistance as they were outworked, outmuscled and outclassed – with Thibaud Flament, Charles Ollivon and Damian Penaud all scoring two tries, while Thomas Ramos got another –in a humiliation.

The defeat far outstripped the heaviest previous home loss, a 42-6 reverse to South Africa at Twickenham back in 2008.

Italy 10-22 Wales, 44 minutes

Italy are fizzing, perhaps buoyed by how Wales collapsed from a not dissimilar position of strength against Australia in the autumn. They go from deep, hands working nicely to create a soft edge on the left. Tommaso Allan connects with Stephen Varney after striding some 30 metres, but Varney’s pass back towards the touchline is away from the grasping hands of Pierre Bruno.

TRY! ITALY 10-22 Wales (Sebastian Negri try, 43 minutes)

A much-needed Italian score to start the second half!

Better from the hosts, all sparked by that superb Menoncello break. Then it is a moment of invention to crack Wales open, Tommaso Allan chipping deftly over the top as he takes a clattering, Sebastian Negri chasing hard to make the most of a favourable bounce and biff his way over.

Allan dusts himself off and converts.

Italy 3-22 Wales, 41 minutes

Italy still down a man with Lorenzo Cannone not yet cleared to return from his yellow.

Brilliant from Tommaso Menoncello! Not for the first time today the young centre breaks a couple of tackles and cuts up the middle with almost effortless strength and speed.

Second half underway....

Back out there, and immediately after the restart Italy are awarded a penalty.

H/T: Italy 3-22 Wales

Wales haven’t had to play particularly brilliantly, but they deserve credit for taking their chances sharply when they’ve come. Liam Williams finished his score particularly niftily, a sharp right-footed step and brusque jettisoning of Stephen Varney from his chest to capitalise on Tomas Francis’ turnover. The bonus point is very much in sight.

H/T: Italy 3-22 Wales

A first half to rather puncture all the optimism Italy had found after the first three weeks of the championship. Loose in defence, loose in attack and with a rather unwelcome slice of misfortune to compound their woes.

Italy 3-22 Wales, 41 minutes

A cross-kick comes to nigh, with a rather uncomfortable tumble for Liam Williams after claiming. Back for the penalty...

Or not! The TMO informs Damon Murphy that the challebnge on Williams was worthy of a reversal, so Italy will miss out on points.

A disaster half for the hosts - the smiling Welsh squad follow Owen Williams’ kick down the tunnel.

Italy 3-22 Wales, 40 minutes

Giacomo Nicotera hits his front jumper and in the bodies pile, Edoardo Padovani and Tommaso Menoncello lending their weight.

Wales somehow quell it a metre shy. But another advantage is coming...

Italy 3-22 Wales, 39 minutes

A third penalty in quick succession against the visitors. Paolo Garbisi charges his forwards with another go in the corner.
