Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Ascot Chase Raceday is a popular fixture in the sporting calendar, although no fans will descend to watch the Jump action on Saturday afternoon. The course traditionally increases the excitement of horse racing fans eagerly waiting for Cheltenham Festival, and there is plenty to get excited for as racing returns to Ascot.
The Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase has a number of star attractions on offer to match the prestige of the event to promise a competitive day. Previous winners include One Man, Monet’s Garden, Kauto Star, Cue Card, Silviniaco Conti and Paul Nicholls’ star Cyrname. Cyrname, who dominated a high-class field with a 17-length victory in 2019, is among five declared for this year’s race including defending champion Riders Onthe Storm.
The card also boasts the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase, deemed an important stepping stone to Cheltenham’s Grade 1 three-mile novice Chase, and it’s a race which has been won by many prestigious horses over the years.

A winning end to the day with Richard Johnson driving home an impressive winner. I hope you enjoyed the action and a few winners!
Result: 4.45 Ascot
1. Code Name Lise 3-1
2. Miss Fairfax 15-8 Fav
3 Drash On Ruby 6-1
8 ran
Code Name Lise makes plenty of appeal each-way here. She ran a lovely race at Warwick and has a fine pedigree.
We've a hot favourite in the nightcap, with Miss Fairfax set to go off a hot favourite for Hughie Morrison.
That was a cracking penultimate race at Ascot, with the first four all in with a chance jumping the last. J’Ai Froid found plenty under Max Kendrick, with the favourite unable to quicken.
Result: 4.10 Ascot
1. J’Ai Froid 9-2
2. Fawsley Spirit 17-2
3. Saint Dalina 14-1
15 ran.
All hands on Deck?
Flight Deck is 4.5 favourite for the penultimate race for JP McManus and the two Jonjo O’Neills. He looks sure to appreciate the step up in trip and makes plenty of appeal.
Result: 3.25 Ascot
1. Dashel Drasher 4-1
2. Master Tommytucker 7-2
5 ran.
Cyrname ran an absolute shocker, pulled up after being headed. Dashel Drasher asserted at the top of the straight, with Master Tommytucker rallying from the last but well-held. A slow-motion finish to an anti-climatic renewal.
