Corach Rambler won the 175th running of the Grand National on the UK’s biggest betting day
Corach Rambler won the 2023 Grand National at Aintree backing up its status as the 8/1 favourite.
Mister Coffey and Coko Beach led early on and throughout most of the thrilling race. But chaotic scenes early on saw a number of fallers, including Lifetime Ambition, who was taken out by a loose horse at fence 9.
However, Corach Rambler, ridden by Derek Fox and trained by Lucinda Russell took the lead from Mister Coffey over the final fence and kicked for home to record a memorable win.
The race had been delayed after protestors breached the Aintree racecourse fence and got on to the course. The Grand National attracted criticism from animal rights protestors in the build-up, with three arrests made in connection with potential co-ordinated disruption activities at Aintree, which became nine following the pre-race disruption

The Big Breakaway is also down at the second fence and it looks like Darasso is also out of the race.
Coko Beach leads ahead of Lifetime Ambition. Mister Coffey and Minella Trump are just behind.

Minella Trump and Coko Beach take the early lead over the first fence.
Hill Sixteen and Fury Road have fallen early.

After the earlier delay there’s now a false start as Cloudy Glen wasn’t in the pack when they approached the start.

Noble Yeats is the last horse out of the paddock. Most of the jockeys have led their charges down to the first fence to make sure their horse knows what’s in store.

The delay of course adds an extra layer of intrigue to the race. How will the horses and jockeys cope with the later start? Will there be a bit of held up energy released when the race gets going?

Lucinda Russell, Corach Rambler’s trainer, said: “It is a real pain in the neck. Are the protestors doing it for themselves or for the horses?
“If they are doing it for the horses then they have got to understand that they are compromising their welfare just now. We can take them back keep them safe and keep them cool, but really it all seems a bit pointless.”

That delay has been good for last year’s winner Noble Yeats who has been backed into a favourite spot.
The jockeys have come back onto the course and pose for the pre-race photo. There’s a load cheer from the waiting crowds when they arrive back in the paddock.
