Who’s going to win Super Bowl 57? | You Ask the Questions

Patrick Mahomes proved why he is the NFL’s Most Valuable Player as he shrugged off an ankle injury to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a dramatic 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday to claim their second Super Bowl in four years.

Kansas City’s hopes of returning home with the Lombardi trophy looked bleak late in the opening half when Mahomes appeared to re-injure the right ankle that had been a major worry coming into the game.

Grimacing in pain after a tackle, Mahomes hobbled off the field and slammed his helmet to the turf as the Chiefs headed into halftime trailing 24-14.

But when the teams returned after the break a resilient Mahomes produced a heroic effort, tossing two fourth-quarter touchdowns and engineering a final drive to set up Harrison Butker’s 27-yard game-winning field goal with eight seconds to play.

Mahomes threw three touchdowns - including two in the fourth quarter - to drive the Chiefs to victory, coming back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Super Bowl 2023 - Fans frustrated as Game Pass breaks

NFL fans were left furious after Game Pass crashed during Super Bowl 57.

The league’s official streaming platform, which costs fans in the UK £150.99 per year, cut out as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs battled it out for the Lombardi trophy.

One fan called the issue “embarrassing”, while another labelled it “comical”, with many left unable to watch the game in Glendale, Arizona.

Super Bowl 2023 - Andy Reid explains why Patrick Mahomes is so good

Super Bowl number two arrived in season number five as a starter for Patrick Mahomes, a glittering CV only further gilded by yet more individual and team success. This was a statement season from Mahomes, if anything improving as a quarterback after the Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill.

“He grew up in a locker room, he’s seen the greats, and he strives to be the greatest,” Kansas City head coach Andy Reid explained of Mahomes’ continued brilliance. “He wants to be the greatest player ever.

“That’s what he wants to do and he goes about it humbly. There’s no bragging. He could stand up here and give you these stats that are incredible, but he’s never going to do that. So we appreciate that.

And when it’s time for the guys around him to raise their game, he helps them with that. The great quarterbacks make everyone around them better, including the head coach.”

Super Bowl 2023 - Jalen Hurts bids to harness pain of defeat

“We came up short,” was Jalen Hurts’ immediate reflection after defeat in his first Super Bowl appearance.

“I think the beautiful part about it is everyone experiences different pains, everyone experiences different agonies of life. But you decide if you want to learn from it.

“You decide if you want to use that...teachable moment. I know what I’ll do.”

Super Bowl 2023 - Patrick Mahomes praises ‘special performance’ from Jalen Hurts

Even in defeat last night, it felt like Jalen Hurts took another significant step forward. The Eagles quarterback went toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes with an outstanding all-round performance, totalling nearly 400 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns.

“If there were any doubters left, there shouldn’t be now,” Mahomes said of his Philadelphia counterpart. “The way he stepped up on this stage, ran, threw the ball, whatever it took for his team to win, I mean...

“That was a special performance. I don’t want it to get lost in the loss that they had. Even when we went up eight points in the fourth quarter, for him to respond and move his team down the field and run it in himself, it was a special performance by him. Make sure you appreciate that.”

Super Bowl 2023 - Chiefs backup quarterback Chad Henne announces retirement

With a second Super Bowl ring secured, Chad Henne has elected to ride off into the sunset while on top, with Patrick Mahomes’ back-up announcing his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons in the league. Henne has proved a steady hand in the Chiefs’ quarterback room over the last five seasons, twice keeping Kansas City afloat in the play-offs with Mahomes absent: the veteran orchestrated a gutsy win over the Cleveland Browns in 2020 and engineered a 98-yard drive in the divisional round against Jacksonville this year after Mahomes suffered his high ankle sprain.

Super Bowl 2023 - Feel good vibes for all

The Super Bowl had something for everyone.

Long before Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the biggest winner of this NFL season walked onto the field. Damar Hamlin came out to a rousing ovation during a pregame ceremony honoring the men and women who saved his life.

Hamlin’s third appearance of the week was the best feel-good moment on a day filled with many inspirational themes.

Mahomes and Jalen Hurts put on a historic show in the first Super Bowl featuring two Black starting quarterbacks. Hurts was spectacular but Mahomes played through an ankle injury and rallied the Chiefs from a 10-point deficit for a 38-35 comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

It was yet another lesson on dealing with adversity and rising to the occasion playing out before hundreds of millions of viewers on the sport’s biggest stage.

Super Bowl 2023 - Harrison Butker’s winning moment

He’ll kick plenty tougher field goals in his career, but Harrison Butker’s nerves will certainly have been jangling as he strode back into position to line up the game-winning kick. Straight and true.

Super Bowl 2023 - Kadarius Toney makes the most of his touches

Few players more of their moments last night than Kadarius Toney. Acquired midseason by the Kansas City Chiefs as Andy Reid and Eric Bienemy sought a wide variety of explosive offensive options, Toney produced two significant plays in quick succession, first producing a nifty change of direction to take advantage of an Eagles coverage bust and score a five-yard touchdown, and then cutting loose on a punt return to take Kansas City swiftly into scoring range.

“We saw something a little bit different on tape and we knew that we could take advantage of what they weren’t doing,” Chiefs offensive coordinator Bieniemy said of Toney’s touchdown. “And Kadarius just did a hell of a job of finding a way to get himself open.”
