From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Slow zone enforced to try and recover Rigon's Ferrari at the bottom of the hill.
The No 7 Audi is coming back at the fifth-placed Rebellion now, and is just over 20 seconds behind with a further six laps between them and the fourth-placed Audi of Loic Duval.
Safety zone has been removed so the track is clear to go racing once again.
Soo Duval is forced to pit with a slowly deflating left-front puncture, and Audi elect just to change the one tyre rather than the full set before sending him on his way. Toyota pit the lead No 6 car for fuel only, and that will see Dumas close right up again.
Slight correction, it was the No 98 Aston Martin that made contact with the JOTA Sport/G Drive Racing Gibson, with race stewards looking into the incident.
A big crash for the No 64 Chevrolet Corvette at the entry to the Dunlop Chicane brings out another safe zone and ends the race for the 64, wwith Tommy Milner hopping straight out fo the car and away to safety. There's heavy damage not only to the Corvette, but also to the tyre barrier, and this looks likely to be a lengthy delay.
16 HOUR UPDATE
If you're just joining us after a nice long sleep, where've you been?! It's been a tough old night fuelled by numerous espressos, but here's the current state of play.
- The No 6 Toyota has led throughout the night since the fourth hour
- No 2 Porsche fights back during the night to challenge for overall lead
- No 5 Toyota also on lead lap in three-way battle for lead
- No 1 Porsche taken out of contention due to water pump failure
- Audi struggle after early turbocharger failure on the No 7
- No 36 Alpine leads LMP2 battle
- No 82 Ferrari and No 68 Ford GT exchange GTE Pro lead throughout the night
- Ferrari leading GTE Am class with No 62
There's another big shunt out there for the No 35 Alpine, as Nelson Pantiatici skips across the Mulsanne Chincane and slams into the outside barrier. I don't think that one will be making it back.
The extensive repairs are still ongoing at the Dunlop Chicane, but the Mulsanne Chicane as gone back to green, despite the Alpine trying to get restarted from behind a safety barrier. the entire front right corner has been ripped off, and personally I can't see it going anywhere except on the back of a low-loader.
