From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The final race of the 2018 Isle of Man TT takes place on Friday in the form of the Senior TT to cap what has already been a record-breaking week.

The likes of Michael Dunlop, Dean Harrison and Peter Hickman will duke it out on the roads of the Isle of Man at speeds peaking at 200mph in what remains one of the most dangerous races in the world.

Friday afternoon sees the blue ribbon event in the form of the Senior TT – the one they all want to win – and after triumphing in last year’s event, Dunlop is looking to land win No 19 that would put him within four victories of John McGuinness and seven of overall leading race winner Joey Dunlop. But even though he took the spoils in the Superbike TT last Saturday – ridden on the same bikes as today’s event – Harrison holds the outright lap record and took victory in the second Supersport race on Wednesday, while Hickman will also be a threat after winning the Superstock race on Monday.

**Five-minute klaxon**

Who else could force their way into the mix? Keep an eye on Cummins and Hillier, who have been on the pace all week with the former finishing third in the Superbike TT last weekend. Outside of the top 10, Josh Brookes goes on the beautiful Norton that continues to get better and better each year, while Lee Johnston will be hoping for an improvement on the Honda Racing Fireblad CBR1000. Jamie Coward and Phil Crowe have also shown good pace, while Davey Todd became the second fastest ever newcomer earlier this week behind only Hickman, which certainly made a good impression.

Two-minutes to go...and there's still no Dunlop on the start line! Talk about playing it cool.

THEY'RE OFF!

Cummins gets the tap and fires the Padgetts Honda off the start line and away down Bray Hill.

Lap 1: Rocking up to the line with just 90 seconds to go, Dunlop jumps straight on to the Tyco BMW and seconds later is away towards St Ninians. Needless to say he's pretty focused. All the front-runners are away safe and sound.

Lap 1: Cummins is through Glen Helen on the opening lap in 4:21.961s, but he's quickly passed on the leaderboard by Hillier and, unsurprisingly, both Harrison and Dunlop. It's Harrison who again leads by 2.259s, having led every race this week that he's competed in, but rather surprisingly it's Hickman in second and not Dunlop. The Smiths Racing BMW man is on the pace once again! Could he take down the official lap record?

Lap 1: Problems for Dunlop! The Northern Irishman has dropped from third to fourth, behind Conor Cummins, while Hillier has disappeared from the timesheet at Ballaugh. More on that when we know what's happened.

Lap 1: Issues at Barragarrow, it seems:

Lap 1: The leaders are through Ramsey Hairpin and Harrison continues to lead Hickman by 2.394s, with Dunlop now 10 seconds behind the leader but back up to full speed. Cummins sits fourth, right on the tail of Dunlop, with Davo Johnson a further two-tenths back in fifth.

Jack de Menezes8 June 2018 12:59

Lap 1: Hickman's on the charge! He's taken eight tenths out of Harrison over the mountain and is just 1.596s back at the Bungalow.

Lap 1: Confirmation through that Hillier has retired at Westwood, while Ivan Lintin has retired at Ballacraine.
