From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A bumper day of racing on Thursday saw Peter Hickman take his win tally to five TT’s as he claimed both the second supersport race and the Superstock TT, the latter in dominant fashion. Michael Dunlop registered his 19th TT victory by winning the Lightweight race with Michael Rutter claiming the spoils in the TT Zero, while the Birchall brothers Ben and Tom claimed seventh consecutive sidecar race.
But today is all about the Senior TT where Hickman will bid to become just the third man to win four TT races in a week, with Dean Harrison, Conor Cummins and Dunlop out to stop him. Follow the live updates below.
What time does it start?
Friday’s Isle of Man TT gets underway at 10am.
How can I follow it?
Races are not shown live from the TT, so the best way to follow the action as it happens is with local radio or The Independent’s live blog throughout the event. Radio coverage is provided by Manx Radio over the fortnight, while live timing is available through the official www.iomttraces.com website.

"Hector Neill hit the nail on the head, to finish first, first you must finish. Peter was just chipping away at me and I thought if I can just hold on, about 19 or 20 seconds, I was still in it. I can't believe it.
"I lost my way a bit with the big gap in the middle because of the weather and that's down to me really, but we're back.
"The thing I'm happy about too is it's a win over six laps, two pit stops, done the hard way. The conditions were perfect, no damp patches, and can I say a big thank you to the crowd, they were all hanging over the hedges and waving programmes, big foam fingers.
"I got the first P1 board at Ballaugh, and then the next board said +30 and I thought someone must have dropped out."

Hickman
"It is what it is. We've had a cracking week. The bike was working awesome over the first four laps, built a 19 second lead and I was doing what I did in the superstock race and was cruising. But then the temperature went really high when I came in for the second pit stop and it's been doing it all week, and we don't know why. We've got some really smart people who have no idea why it's chucking water out. I couldn't go over 11,000rpm otherwise it wouldn't get hot but it would chuck all the water out.
"Obviously we're gutted but it's just the way it goes."

Cummins
"It was good, we had a problem mid-race but I just had to manage it as best we could. Other than that it was a faultless race really, got my head down from the off and settled into a groove.
"I'd love to be winning it but we'll come back next year stronger.
"Everyone's worked so hard over the winter at Padgetts to get me here and that shows in the pits.
"I noticed my boards were coming down a bit and I had a bit of a push, but third's good enough and we can all go for a shandy now.
"I was consolidating my position in the race and I was gathering data so we can come back stronger next year. A big thank you to Millenco and Padgetts for everything and all the fans.
"It was tight, I was getting +0 (on Dunlop), brilliant."
