From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Here's a look at the full card this evening, with a Geordie Shore grudge match between Sam Gowland and Marty McKenna topping the bill:
Geordie Shore star Scotty T was of course supposed to top the card this evening with a fight against reality TV regular Stephan Bear.
However, just five days ago the Geordie lad withdrew from the contest for an unspecified reason, ruining the main event at short notice.
In a statement Fame MMA said: "We regret to inform that due unforeseen circumstances Scotty T has had to pull out of the fight with Stevie Bear. Due to the nature of MMA and combat sport there is always potential for fighters to forfeit for reasons outside of our and their control. We sincerely apologise for any disappointment caused.
"It is important to us to keep fans satisfied but the fighters' health and wellbeing must come first in any instance. The event is still going ahead and there will be plenty of MMA full-contact combat action.”
Scotty T has yet to reveal the reason for his no show, but Bear has pulled no punches, accusing his rival of "bottling it".
The sole women's fight on this evening's card sees Love Island and TOWIE star Georgia Harrison take on self-proclaimed 'Essex Conor McGregor', Ashley Marie - a professional videogamer and YouTuber.
Harrison is best friends with Sam Gowland, who fights Marty McKenna in the main event.
FAME MMA UK shot into the public eye when Gowland and McKenna almost came to blows at the organisation's first press conference.
The rivals, who are both ex-boyfriends of Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry, engaged in some trash talk before tensions boiled over, with McKenna hurling bottles of water and a chair at his opponent.
And afterwards Gowland promised to knock his rival out this evening.
On Instagram, he said: "Just to reiterate what I was saying...the fat c*** is going to get knocked out in the first round...100% first round, acting like a f****** idiot yesterday; throwing chairs, throwing paper cups of water.
"First round knock out 110%...it will be the last time you see him on TV."
Here's how Gowland and McKenna weighed-in for tonight's clash:
The fighters haven't found life easy in the week ahead of the event...
