England's World Cup honeymoon was gatecrashed in sensational fashion as Ireland skittled their hosts for a calamitous 85 before taking an 122-run first innings' lead at Lord's.

Just 10 days after their greatest achievement in one-day cricket, England were back at the scene of the triumph to face their neighbours for the first time in the Test arena, an occasion that immediately brought them crashing down to earth. Tim Murtagh, the 37-year-old Middlesex seamer who has spent a dozen years honing his craft at the home of cricket, led the Irish charge with a stunning return of five for 13 while Mark Adair and one-time England bowler Boyd Rankin shared the remaining scalps.

Andrew Balbirnie then passed 50 in response before debutant Olly Stone and Sam Curran took three wickets apiece to eventually dismiss the visitors for 207 on a day where 20 wickets fell.

1.4 England 7/0 Rory Burns 1 Jason Roy 5

Ooh that's close. Roy gets a thick inside edge and the ball skittles past the stumps and towards fine leg as he comes back for two. That could easily have hit the stumps.

2.0 England 7/0 Rory Burns 1 Jason Roy 5

My word, Roy is living dangerously as Adair's next delivery crashes into his pads, it's clearly LBW, but it's a no ball. He stepped so far over the line. HUGE let-off for the debutant.

Jason Roy is caught at slip!

Tim Murtah is doing Tim Murtah things and delivers a peach of a ball that Roy dangles his bat at. It zips up from the surface and catches Roy's limp defence on its way to Paul Stirling at slip.

In comes Joe Denly.

Is there a better sight in the summer?

4.0 England 12/1 Rory Burns 3 Joe Denly 3

Kent's Denly gets off the mark and is a couple of yards short of the first boundary of the day as he clips one towards third man for three runs.

5.0 England 13/1 Rory Burns 3 Joe Denly 4

Oh that's a lovely stats from the folks at BBC Test Match Special. This is the first time that an England team is playing against a side at Lord's with a higher number of First Class appearances. Ireland have 93, albeit most of them are held by Tim Murtah and Paul Sterling, and England have 88.

Murtah is bowling really well out there, he's found his line really early and already has one scalp.

6 England 21/1 Rory Burns 3 Joe Denly 12

Lovely drive from Denly through extra cover away for four in front of the grand stand after easing one through square the previous delivery. He's already moving his feet nicely here, our Joe, and is getting into his rhythm.

7 England 23/1 Rory Burns 4 Joe Denly 13

There's a slightly tricky moment here for England as Denly sets off for a second, decided against it and slips as he tries to come back. Ireland's throw is a little slow to come in and Denly survives. You feel that England were taking it a touch easy with their running there. A couple of spikes missing, maybe?

This has been a good start for Ireland with the new ball, although as I type that Denly works the ball gloriously through mid-wicket. Perfectly-timed.
