It will take time for cricket community to accept David Warner and Steve Smith back, says England's Eoin Morgan

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. England's faltering World Cup campaign veered further off track as old rivals Australia booked their place in the semi-finals with a 64-run victory at Lord's.

After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.

With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

It looks like a good crowd in, unsurprisingly, with a smattering of famous faces around the ground, including at least two former Prime Ministers, a couple of musical mega-stars and Gareth Southgate.

It's a huge occasion and a huge game, and it's anthem time under brightening skies.

A number of the England players are sporting jumpers, which seems odd given the rather humid conditions at Lord's.

Two solid enough anthem renditions. Time for the cricket.

Aaron Finch and David Warner pull on their gloves, touch them together and hop onto the Lord's outfield, stretching, shadow batting and generally loosening up as they stride to the middle.

And there it is - the first boo of the day as David Warner's name is announced in the ground. There'll be more.

Aaron Finch will face the first ball. Chris Woakes has the new white nut in his hands.

0.2 - Australia 4-0, Aaron Finch 4, David Warner 0, Chris Woakes 0-4 (0.2)

A chance, but over Joe Root at slip!

A firm push at a ball nipping away and Chris Woakes finds the outside edge of Aaron Finch's bat, but there is bounce from the hard new ball, and the ball flies over a leaping Joe Root at second slip.

Australia away in streaky fashion.

1.0 - Australia 7-0, A Finch 5, D Warner 0, C Woakes 0-5 (1)

Ooh, that's close!

Three slips wait as David Warner takes guard for the first time and it is a very, very good leave to the last ball of the over, a nip-backer that is whiskers away from the top of his off-stump.

Woakes into his work nicely. Seven from the first including two leg-byes.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 10:34

1.1 - Australia 11-0, A Finch 9, D Warner 0, Jofra Archer 0-4 (0.1)

Jofra Archer shares the new ball and is greeted with a glorious drive through extra-cover!

Confident foot-work from Finch, getting a good stride in and driving a bit of a loosener from Archer first up through the offside ring for four.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 10:36

2.0 - Australia 11-0, A Finch 9, D Warner 0, J Archer 0-4 (1)

Tight stuff from Archer aside from that first ball, bowling relatively straight to Finch to tuck him up from back-of-a-length and limit his scoring options.

Five dots close the second over.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 10:37

Three slips still for Warner, who is standing outside of his crease to try and negate any early swing and mess with Woakes' lengths.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 10:38

3.0 - Australia 13-0, A Finch 9, D Warner 2, C Woakes 0-7 (2)

A little bit jumpy at the crease, Warner, but solid of judgement as Woakes pushes the ball across him, looking for indecision around that off stump.

Warner drives at the last ball of the over and catches the outside half of his bat, sending the ball flying through backward point and down to third man for a couple. Warner off the mark but looking uncomfortable.

Harry Latham-Coyle25 June 2019 10:42

4.0 - Australia 18-0, A Finch 10, D Warner 6, J Archer 0-9 (2)

There's something in this surface, certainly. Archer beats then finds the outside edge of Finch's bat with away nip from a length, Adil Rashid again busy on the third man boundary as Finch's attempted leg-side spoon goes awry.

Archer and Warner could be quite the battle given the former's proficiency against left-handers, and he crosses 90mph for the first time this morning as Warner blocks back his first ball.

The bowler goes short with his final ball but it is a touch too short, and Warner blindly pulls to the square-leg fence for four. Not the most in-control shot, but a boundary nonetheless.
