After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.
With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.
Eoin Morgan to the crease. Australia doing what England didn't and properly pitching the ball up.
Ball-tracking shows that was plumber than plumb. Unsurprisingly.

Careful, Eoin! England don't need that. He stays leg side of a good ball and flashes at it with no footwork, extremely fortunate that it just evades the outside edge to oohs and aahs from behind the stumps.
Swing thing - Australia's new ball pair have found the breakthroughs that England's didn't, as Ben Burrows comments:
Cricket, in any format, is about taking wickets. England didn't take any with their new ball, Australia have two of England's top three in the sheds and we're not out of the fourth over. Whereas England's new ball pair couldn't get any shape under these leaden skies Australia's left-arm duo have the ball talking. England have to see out this spell without sustaining too much more damage.

That's one way to counter the swing! A skip down the pitch from Eoin Morgan, an opening of the shoulders and a tracer bullet fired all along the ground to the right of the bowler for a four back down the ground.
OUT! ANOTHER! A TOP EDGED HOOK FROM MORGAN AND HE'S GONE!
It's all going pear-shaped for England. Morgan is vulnerable against the short ball early on and Starc's pace is always challenging, and the England captain is never in control of this shot, perhaps surprised by the bouncer with the ball still swinging.
It flies down to fine leg where Pat Cummins holds on to a very decent catch, rushing to his left and taking it reverse-cupped as he falls to the floor.

Ben Stokes blocks the final ball of the over. England's batting line up is incredibly deep, of course, but this will be an extremely tough ask from here.
Ben Burrows: This is going from bad to worse for England. It took only 21 deliveries for Australia to take their first two wickets. Fourteen balls later and the skipper joins Vince and Root back in the pavilion. It's a dreadful shot from Eoin Morgan and Starc has his second of the day. It's looking bleak for the hosts with that 286 looking an awfully long way away.
7.0 - England 30-3, B Stokes 0, J Bairstow 16, J Behrendorff 1-17 (4)
A peculiar shot in the circumstances, but Bairstow just about gets away with it! A loose, lofted drive straight at mid-off, just enough amplitude to get it over a leaping Aaron Finch. Were it a taller man there that might well have settled into the hands.
It trickles away for four.
Pat Cummins into the attack. It doesn't get any easier. A different challenge. Right arm over to Stokes.

High quality stuff from Cummins, as always. He beats an advancing Stokes down the slope with a hint of away movement from the fifth delivery and beats a lazy pull across the line to close a maiden over.
