It will take time for cricket community to accept David Warner and Steve Smith back, says England's Eoin Morgan

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. England's faltering World Cup campaign veered further off track as old rivals Australia booked their place in the semi-finals with a 64-run victory at Lord's.

After misadventures against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, England ran aground when chasing for the third time in the tournament, dismissed for an error-strewn 221.

With India and New Zealand still to play, there is now minimal leeway if the world's number one side are to reach the semi-finals of their own competition.

47.0 - Australia 259-6, A Carey 17, P Cummins 1, M Wood 1-59 (9)

Lovely from Alex Carey, sliding a wide ball past backward point and using the pace of Wood to beat third man to his left.

But a third ball single leaves Cummins to try and engineer something similar from Wood's final three balls, something he cannot do, a short ball down the leg side going unpunished, turned around the corner for another single to get the pace bowler off the mark.

Wood has dragged back his figures brilliantly. Presumably Woakes, Wood, Archer to close things out.

Ben Burrows:

The first 20 overs belonged well and truly to Australia but England have wrestled themselves back into this one with some really smart bowling. Steve Smith's departure means Australia have now lost five for 77 since Ben Stokes demolished Usman Khawaja's uprights an hour ago and England have their tails up

OUT! Another falls! A smart grab from Jos Buttler and Pat Cummins goes for one!

Simple bowling, simple dismissal. Chris Woakes puts the ball in a good area, catches the outside edge as Cummins looks to hand strike to Alex Carey with a loose push outside the off-stump and the ball just about carries to a tumbling Buttler behind the sticks.

P Cummins c Buttler b Woakes 1 (4b 0x4 0x6), Australia 259-7 (47.1)

Mitchell Starc to the crease. Two left-handers. He has a lusty blow or two in him.

47.3 - Australia 261-7, A Carey 18, M Starc 1, C Woakes 2-44 (9.2)

Nearly! Carey squirts the ball on to the offside and Starc was struggling with a direct hit, but Woakes can't find the timber.

Worryingly for Australia, Starc might have damaged his calf rushing through...

48.0 - Australia 263-7, A Carey 19, M Starc 2, C Woakes 2-46 (10)

Yep, he's definitely sore, Starc, and that means there is no chance of two as Carey turns to leg, particularly with Jonny Bairstow's jet-propelled arm ready to launch in from the boundary.

A very good ten-over spell from Chris Woakes. 2-46 his worthy returns, though his new-ball burst perhaps deserved more.

Archer is back to bowl the 49th.

48.1 - Australia 268-7, A Carey 23, M Starc 2, J Archer 1-50 (8.2)

A wide and then a floated half-volley wide of off stump, placed beautifully by Carey past the off-side sweeper. Four runs!

49.0 - Australia 274-7, A Carey 28, M Starc 3, J Archer 1-56 (9)

Carey has faced a fair amount of Archer in the Big Bash and shows his intelligence and experience against the quick, guiding him fine of third man to close the over with another boundary.

Stokes to bowl the last...
