From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Brilliant centuries from Jos Buttler and Joe Root were not enough to carry England to a record World Cup chase as Pakistan produced a stunning upset at Trent Bridge.

Root's 107 was the first ton of the tournament and Buttler was in irresistible form with 103 in 76 balls but both men fell before the finishing line, with Pakistan closing out a 14-run victory.

A target of 349 invited England to go where no other team had gone before at this level and while their master batsmen were in charge it looked as though they could, should and then would make it two wins from two. Re-live the action in the live blog below

15 Pakistan 85/1 Babar 2  Imam-ul-Haq 38

England will be so relived to finally break that opening partnership that raced towards an impressive score.

Babar Azam, a calm and calculated batter, comes into the game at an ideal time and will expect to score high.

Mark Wood begins with a good short ball to Babar. You imagine that Pakistan have been doing a lot of work against the short ball this week.

Babar looks to take on Wood with the next delivery, but it's not an instinctive movement towards the ball and is hits it just short of mid-on. He composes himself and finds the boundary with a smart hoot backwards to square-leg.

Great over all-round.

Drinks break

Moeen Ali is England's man of the moment as we pause after the 16th over.

17.0 Pakistan 95/1 Babar Azam 11  Imam-ul-Haq 39

Good work from Pakistan to keep the runs ticking over. Babar calls for a second after sending the ball towards the cover boundary and just about makes it back before things get tight.

Moeen is racing through his overs, that must have been less than two minutes. There's no chance of Eoin Morgan being banned for a slow-rate here.

18.0 Pakistan 100/1 Babar Azam 14  Imam-ul-Haq 41

Ben Stokes joins the action, looking to repeat his heroics against South Africa on Thursday.

Five from the over for as Babar and Imam bring get Pakistan to 100.

19.0 Pakistan 108/1 Babar Azam 20  Imam-ul-Haq 43

Moeen Ali is racing through his overs but hits a brick wall as Babar lofts a shot between mid-off and extra-cover.

Ali just offered Babar a little bit of width and he took it with grateful open arms.

20.0 Pakistan 111/1 Babar Azam 21  Imam-ul-Haq 44

Ben Stokes races through an over with little to shout about.

Pakistan's projected scores are around the 300-mark, perhaps a little higher. Their curernt run rat (5.64) will get them towards 282.

20.1 Pakistan 111/2

Wicket!

Moeen Ali has his second and it's Iman ul-Haq who is walking!

A delivery is thrust into the air and Chris Woakes comes from a long way to take the catch!

Imam is eyeing a six off Moeen's first delivery, but opts to fire towards the longest part of the ground and Woakes chargers to long-on and clutches the ball.

22 Pakistan 128/2 Babar Azam 26 Mohammad Hafeez 12

Ben Stokes completes his third over and it's safe to say there is not a lot on offer for the England all-rounder out there as he sees Hafeez find a gap in the field and find four.

23 Pakistan 132/2 Babar Azam 28 Mohammad Hafeez 14

Adil Rashid is called into the attack. His average against Pakistan in the one-day series was 62.

Pakistan initally attack him with caution after playing against him so well recently.
