Brilliant centuries from Jos Buttler and Joe Root were not enough to carry England to a record World Cup chase as Pakistan produced a stunning upset at Trent Bridge.
Root's 107 was the first ton of the tournament and Buttler was in irresistible form with 103 in 76 balls but both men fell before the finishing line, with Pakistan closing out a 14-run victory.
A target of 349 invited England to go where no other team had gone before at this level and while their master batsmen were in charge it looked as though they could, should and then would make it two wins from two. Re-live the action in the live blog below
4.0 Pakistan 20/0 Imam-ul-Haq 3 Fakhar Zaman 12
Jofra Archer bowls short to Zaman and he punches a short through square-leg to the boundary, great shot. That was a little low from the England bowler.
5.0 Pakistan 31/0 Imam-ul-Haq 14 Fakhar Zaman 12
Chris Woakes bowls a couple of dots before Imam hits him for six. The Pakistan opener skips down the wicket and slams it well-over mid-on for a maximum.
The very next delivery edges straight to where a third slip would be and rolls for four. England have reshuffled their field after placing three in the slips at the start of play. That was at a catch-able height.
That six followed by a four has changed thing here. Pakistan are enjoying a fine start.
6.0 Pakistan 37/0 Imam-ul-Haq 15 Fakhar Zaman 17
You get the sense that we are in a for a high-scoring day following Pakistan's aggressive start to proceedings here.
This pitch is a little softer than the one that West Indies beat Pakistan on. There's much less bounce and the batsman are able to watch things for longer here.
After being hit for four earlier in the over, Jofra Archer comes back with a point to prove and Zaman edges one just over gully for one. The additional pace in his deliveries really makes a difference.
7.0 Pakistan 49/0 Imam-ul-Haq 18 Fakhar Zaman 26
These openers are playing with complete freedom as Fakhar sends Chris Woakes' first delivery for four before hitting one behind for another boundary. That first delivery was pitched with and just invited Fakhar to just send it towards the square-leg boundary.
England have to bowl straighter, everything with a bit of width is being gobbled up by these openers.
7.3 Pakistan 53/0 Imam-ul-Haq 22 Fakhar Zaman 26
Jofra Archer is getting his deliveries away at 92mph, but it's not stopping the boundaries. Imam times a drive through cover to perfection.
7.3 Pakistan 53/0 Imam-ul-Haq 22 Fakhar Zaman 26
England appeal for LBW
Jofra Archer fires in at Imam and crashes the ball into the pads. England go upstairs, but it there is a bit of bat involved before hitting the pads.
What a roar from the stands. Pakistan supporters are certainly making themselves heard today.
England lose their review. Was that a desperate attempt to break the partnership?
